The organization

Open Cultural Center promotes the right to mobility of migrants in vulnerable situations and supports them in their social and labour integration in Europe (Catalonia and Greece). To this end, it intervenes in:

  • Development of non-formal education, guidance and psychosocial support activities in first reception regions (Greece);
  • Development of socio-laboral itineraries in the technological and rural sectors, language classes and intercultural exchanges (Catalonia).

Our main office is located in Barcelona, ​​with a team of 15-20 employees and 50-100 volunteers. In addition to the work we do in Greece, some of our main activities in Barcelona and the surrounding area are:

  • Web Development and Cloud Computing Bootcamp (MigraCode).
  • Community of women and people from the LGTBIQ+ community interested in the technology sector (CodeWomen+).
  • Emancipation programme for young migrants in rural areas (Youth4All).
  • Language school (Language Lab).

Purpose of the work

We are looking for a highly motivated and creative person for the role of Spanish Teacher to join our team in Barcelona. Language Lab is a project focused on language teaching through online classes for adults, face-to-face classes for teenagers, multicultural events and language exchange activities. The project needs a person to provide A1 and A2 level Spanish classes to migrant teenagers between 15 and 19 years old, as well as supporting the Language Lab manager in developing the curriculum for online Spanish classes for adults.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct A1 and A2 level Spanish classes adapted to the needs of migrant students between 15 and 19 years old.
  • Develop class curriculum, research relevant educational materials, and create new materials when necessary.
  • Monitor students and communicate with their teachers and referents.
  • Support in online Spanish classes for adults: development of a new curriculum, preparation of educational materials.
  • Participate in awareness-raising workshops on migration, refuge and asylum.
  • Support the rest of the team and actively participate in the organization’s activities.

Job Requirements

  • This job offer is part of the Work and Training Programme (TRFO ESAL) (ref. BDNS 778801) of the Employment Service of Catalonia of the Generalitat de Catalunya.
  • Therefore, all candidates must be non-EU migrants in a situation of social vulnerability and registered with the Public Employment Service of Catalonia as unemployed job seekers (DONO).
    • Proof of nationality must be provided by means of a passport or registration card.
    • The accreditation of the situation of social vulnerability must be carried out by means of a Social Services Report on social vulnerability or by other documentary contributions accredited by a public service.
    • The accreditation of unemployment status (DONO) is carried out through verification by the reference Employment Office.

Required skills, competencies and qualifications

  • Spanish level C2 demonstrable.
  • Training and/or experience in language teaching, preferably with migrant students.
  • Motivation to work in multicultural environments.
  • User-level computing: word processors, databases, spreadsheets, etc.
  • Good communication. Ability to listen and dialogue.
  • Team spirit.
  • Proactivity and autonomy.
  • Availability to adapt your work schedule to the organization’s activities (mornings and/or afternoons).
  • Availability to travel within the framework of European projects.

Preferred skills, competencies and qualifications

  • ELE Certificate.
  • Professional command of English (B2).
  • Knowledge of other languages ​​(Catalan, Darija Arabic, French).
  • Previous experience working with migrants, adolescents at risk of social exclusion or other similar groups.
  • Additional training in the socio-educational field.
  • Knowledge of social resources in Barcelona.

Working conditions

  • 1-year full-time contract (38.5 hours per week).
  • Gross annual salary of €18,200.
  • Incorporation March 2025.
  • Schedule: Monday to Friday with the possibility of teleworking.
  • Vacations: 30 working days per year (42 calendar days).
