How can you make a difference? Key functions / Responsibilities

The Accounting Officer will be part of the Venezuelan Red Cross’s national finance team and will be responsible for ensuring the integrity, accuracy, and timeliness of the National Society’s accounting information. Their work will be both technical, ensuring the correct recording, control, and closing of accounting transactions, and educational, supporting the strengthening of the accounting capacities of the branches throughout the country.

He will work in close coordination with the Finance, Treasury and Purchasing Department, ensuring compliance with current accounting, tax and financial policies, regulations, as well as the requirements of national and international donors.

He/She will be in charge of:

  • Control the bank book, with the daily accounting records of income, expenses, transfers and adjustments, ensuring the proper classification by cost centers, projects, subsidiaries and sources of financing.
  • Prepare and keep up-to-date the Profit and Loss Statements, Statement of Financial Position, in accordance with bank reconciliations and the bank book, ensuring the exact correspondence between accounting balances and financial statements.
  • Manage and report monthly and annual accounting closings, preparing adjusting entries, provisions, reclassifications and consolidated financial statements.
  • Ensure compliance with tax and fiscal obligations, including declarations and withholdings, in coordination with the rest of the department and the Finance Directorate.
  • Manage and control the accounting support documentation of projects financed by international donors (ECHO, COSUDE, IFRC, ICRC, PNS, among others), verifying their correct allocation and eligibility of expenses.
  • Consolidate financial information from subsidiaries and provide accounting support to ensure uniformity of criteria, correct application of policies, and improvement of local processes.
  • Support the preparation of accounting reports for internal and external audits, ensuring document traceability and consistency with the financial statements.
  • Perform and review inter-subsidiary and inter-fund project reconciliations, ensuring accounting consistency and correct eliminations for national consolidation.
  • Effectively utilize institutional accounting and ERP systems for the recording and analysis of financial information.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of accounting procedures, identifying opportunities for automation, simplification and strengthening of internal control.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality and professional integrity, ensuring compliance with the Code of Conduct and institutional policies of the Venezuelan Red Cross.
  • Participate in the training and support of accounting or administrative staff in the subsidiaries, in coordination with the Finance Department.
  • Support in the preparation of consolidated financial reports and explanatory notes for senior management and donors.
  • Perform any other function assigned by the Finance Department within the scope of its competence.
  • Perform other tasks of the position and those assigned by your immediate superiors, based on the characteristics and special conditions of this profile, to provide a quality service that meets the objectives and goals of the organization.

Report

The Accounting Officer will report to the Finance Department.

Trips

You must be available to travel within the country.

It is highly desirable that you have sufficient equipment to perform your function remotely: laptop and/or computer, good internet connection, among others.

To qualify as a builder of the Venezuelan humanitarian system, you must meet the following requirements:

  • University degree in Public Accounting (mandatory).
  • Current professional registration with the College of Public Accountants (mandatory).
  • Minimum 5 years of progressive experience in accounting, with mastery of financial closings, reconciliations and accounting records.
  • Previous experience in humanitarian organizations, NGOs, auditing firms or multinationals.
  • Demonstrable experience in preparing financial statements, controlling fixed assets, and executing accounting for international projects.
  • Experience in external or internal audit processes, accounting document management and handling review requests.
  • Proficiency in accounting software and ERPs (Odoo, SAP, Dynamics, QuickBooks or others) and advanced level of Excel.
  • Solid knowledge of Venezuelan accounting and tax regulations, including tax returns, withholdings and contributions.
  • Knowledge of International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) applicable to the non-profit sector.
  • Knowledge of the accounting requirements of international donors (ECHO, COSUDE, IFRC, ICRC, PNS, UN, among others).
  • Ability to prepare consolidated accounting reports and financial analyses in coordination with the Finance area.
