In this role, you will elevate MAGENTA’s behavioural research and monitoring & evaluation offering. You’ll play a key part in designing innovative methodologies and producing high quality and impactful research products.

MAGENTA is a leading Social and Behavioural Change (SBC) agency that specialises in understanding human decision-making processes in order to design relevant and impactful solutions to some of the most challenging problems of our time. We implement programmes across the Middle East, Africa, Asia, Latin America and The Caribbean using the latest in behavioural science principles and a rigorous approach to research, strategy, campaign design and implementation. The MAGENTA LAB is our research, evaluation and experimentation arm.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

The Consultant will report to the CEO and support our global and MAGENTA LAB teams in Asia, MENA, Africa and LAC. Tasks will be requested on a needs basis and include:

  1. Designing mixed-methods behavioural research methodologies, including for proposals or bids
  2. Scoping research and navigating stakeholder expectations to ensure feasibility and rigour.
  3. Developing quantitative and qualitative data collection instruments and analysis plans
  4. Advise on ERB protocol development
  5. Leading the drafting of research reports, including conducting qualitative and/or quantitative data analyses (e.g., descriptive and inferential statistics, regression and SEM analysis, segmentation analysis, etc.) and data visualisation efforts
  6. Providing technical oversight and review of our research products
  7. Developing specific guides templates as part of the broader MAGENTA LAB toolkit
  8. Conducting training for our team on research-related topics

For each requirement MAGENTA will issue a specific PO with an agreed upon amount.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Relevant degree from a top tier university required; Masters or PhD preferred
  • 12 years professional experience with at least 7 years of experience in a research role in the humanitarian development sector;
  • Behavioural research experience preferred
  • Substantial knowledge of quantitative and qualitative research methods
  • Demonstrable experience building M&E systems, or conducting evaluations and familiarity with MEAL standards.
  • Experience designing and conducting RCTs or quasi-experimental evaluations is an asset.
  • Ability to work effectively, respectfully and successfully with governments, clients, partners and other stakeholders in complex settings;
  • Knowledge of and experience living in the Global South required.
  • Excellent written and spoken English, Arabic, Spanish or French are an asset
  • Software familiarity: NVivo, SPSS/Stata/R, Sprockler, KoBo, Tableua and other analytical tools, Microsoft 365
