But principal:
Conduct assessments and ensure the implementation, maintenance and control of all biomedical activities including repairs, equipment maintenance and planning of biomedical orders, in accordance with MSF protocols, standards and procedures to ensure the correct use and proper functioning of medical equipment within the project(s).
Responsibilities:
- Define procedures and ensure the implementation, monitoring, maintenance, and proper functioning of the medical equipment inventory, including spare parts, technical documentation, tools, etc. This includes the following related tasks:
- Organize and participate in the installation and replacement of medical and laboratory equipment
- If maintenance contracts exist with external providers, monitor the provider’s compliance with the terms of the contract and propose renewals before expiration.
- Identify equipment requiring after-sales services and ensure its return to medical services.
- Perform fault diagnosis, corrective and preventive maintenance, annual diagnostics and certification for equipment for which specialized training has been received.
- Participate in the evaluation of local suppliers and ensure a good supply of spare parts
- Manage spare parts and backup equipment inventory at the mission level. Review, advise on, and work closely with the medical team (medical coordinator and pharmacy) regarding international orders for maintenance consumables and spare parts. Contribute to determining which equipment (and in what quantity) should be maintained as backups, and/or other backup strategies.
- Manage biomedical technicians at the project level and develop their activity plans, and in close coordination with the human resources department, plan and supervise the associated processes (recruitment, training, performance evaluation, development, and internal communication) for the staff under their responsibility.
- As a technical expert, provide support to project biomedical technicians when maintenance work requires assistance, documentation, or additional tools. Organize user training as needed.
- Handle administrative formalities, filing and recording of repairs and maintenance carried out or requested. Define operating standards and monitoring systems.
- Perform delegated tasks as described in the job description and according to the instructions of your supervisor
Objectives and responsibilities specific to the MSF Section / Context:
- The Biomedical Specialist ensures the proper functioning, maintenance and safety of the hospital’s medical equipment in order to guarantee the continuity and quality of care.
Main responsibilities:
- Install, test and commission biomedical equipment.
- Develop and implement the preventive maintenance plan.
- Diagnose faults and carry out repairs as quickly as possible.
- Perform regular inspections, tests and calibrations.
- Monitor critical systems (oxygen, power supply, essential devices).
- Maintain up-to-date inventory of equipment and documentation of all activities related to equipment maintenance.
- Manage the stock of spare parts and technical consumables.
- Train medical staff in the correct use and basic troubleshooting of equipment.
- Contribute to the technical specifications for the purchase of new equipment.
- Produce regular reports on the condition of the biomedical equipment and report any critical risks
Required Skills and Work Attitude:
Education
- Diploma in biomedical technology, biomedical engineering, electronics technology, electronics engineering
- Demonstrable and understandable technical skills
Experience
- Experience as a biomedical/electronics technician/engineer. (Minimum 2 years of experience).
- Teaching skills, an asset
- Advanced knowledge of medical devices in use in the project(s).
