This is a 12-month assignment in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso.
The mandate stems from the Equality in Action Volunteer Cooperation Programme (VCP), which operates in approximately ten countries across Africa, Latin America, and the Middle East over an eight-year period (2020-2028). The VCP aims to increase the involvement of local partners in inclusive, innovative, and sustainable initiatives that will advance gender equality. Oxfam’s role is to support these organizations, working with the most vulnerable and marginalized people, in claiming and exercising their rights. Oxfam places the rights of women, girls, and vulnerable and marginalized people at the heart of everything it does.
Here’s what your daily life will look like:
Working closely with Oxfam team members in Burkina Faso and partner organizations, your mandate will consist of:
- To disseminate and improve knowledge of national and international legislation and policies on gender equality and women’s rights;
- Conduct gender analyses to identify inequalities and propose appropriate solutions;
- Contribute to the evaluation of the impacts of policies and programs on gender equality;
- Develop strategic plans to promote gender equality and gender justice;
- Participate in change management and the adoption of new gender practices.
For this mandate you must:
- To have Canadian citizenship or permanent residence in Canada;
- Hold a university degree in law, political science, feminist studies, international development or any other relevant field;
- Possess two years of experience in law and advocacy, project management, and gender justice or any other relevant field;
- Demonstrate adaptability and ability to work within a multicultural team; Fluency in spoken and written French, English desirable;
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Skype, Teams and Zoom;
- Experience in international development (an asset)
