Call for experts
International Alert implements a diverse portfolio of peacebuilding, governance, social cohesion, and economic resilience programs in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), working with communities, civil society organizations, government institutions, and regional actors to address the root causes of conflict and foster lasting peace. Our interventions cover a wide range of thematic areas, including natural resource governance, protection and stabilization, gender, trauma healing, community dialogue, and conflict-sensitive economic development.
International Alert in the DRC wishes to identify French-speaking experts capable of supporting our team in the development of its peacebuilding programs around nature reserves and protected areas.
The expert will work for a maximum of 20 days over a period of 2 to 3 months (ideally from April 2026).
This will involve a combination of remote work and face-to-face engagement in Kinshasa and possibly in other regions of eastern DRC (Beni, areas targeted by the DRC government’s “Green Corridor” project).
Context

International Alert is seeking an expert consultant with in-depth knowledge of the DRC context to support the development of planned projects and programs in this area.
Expected results:
- Develop an internal position paper for International Alert DRC proposing how the organization could position itself on the main climate security issues in DRC today.
- Lead the development of a proposal (narrative, work plan, budget in French) in an inclusive manner, integrating the perspectives of community peace actors, civil society and key stakeholders working on climate security and natural resource governance; work closely with staff and experts from the International Alert DRC team.
We are looking for experts with the following profile:
Qualifications and experience :
- Master’s degree in the field of peacebuilding, natural resource management, climate change or development.
- 7-10 years of experience in developing programs and proposals for NGOs/UN/donors.
- Proven success with donors (EU, Belgium, France, FCDO, GAC, AIDS, UN, etc.).
- In-depth understanding of the dynamics of conflicts in the DRC, governance and the socio-political context.
- A network established in the DRC on issues of climate security and natural resource governance.
- Experience in climate security, natural resource governance, stabilization and community-led peacebuilding programs.
SKILLS :
- Excellent writing skills in French and English.
- Strong analytical and synthesis skills.
- Ability to coordinate diverse stakeholders and work under tight deadlines.
Management and Reporting
The consultant reports to the DRC national director, with technical support from the program director and program teams.
