Background/Context:
The International Rescue Committee (IRC) has been working in Syria since 2012, providing protection, health, economic recovery, and early childhood development programs in the governorates of Idlib, Aleppo, Raqqa, Hasakah, and Deir ez-Zor, with new programs expanding to include Hama, Rural Damascus, and Homs. With a team of over 750 members, the IRC has successfully built strong community relationships, ensuring effective access to and delivery of services. It plays a pivotal role in NGO and donor forums and coordination efforts in Syria, holding leadership positions and adapting to the evolving context.
With the new reality under the new government, as of December 2024, the International Rescue Committee deployed a team in Damascus to establish operations (Idlib-Sarmada) and participate in coordination structures for newly accessible areas across Syria – including parts of northeast Syria, northwest Syria, and other previously inaccessible locations in southern and central Syria – and to adjust operations for maximum coverage and efficiency.
Job overview:
The cleaner is primarily responsible for maintaining the cleanliness of the International Rescue Committee’s offices and guesthouses by carrying out daily and periodic cleaning procedures that ensure a healthy and safe environment for staff and visitors. Duties include cleaning floors, windows, restrooms, and public areas, while strictly adhering to hygiene, health, and safety standards.
Responsibilities:
• Clean the office and guesthouse during working hours.
• Serve beverages to guests at the International Relief Center.
• Empty and clean trash cans in all rooms and maintain clean offices.
• Clean bathrooms and washrooms.
• Wash and disinfect floors in all rooms, hallways, kitchen, and bathrooms regularly.
• Dust as needed.
• Inform the supervisor of any missing supplies, check for missing items, and submit a request.
• Open and close the building as needed.
• Change and thoroughly wash bed linens in the guesthouse.
• Clean and wash blankets and sheets.
• Clean and tidy guest rooms.
• Clean kitchens weekly in the office and guesthouse.
• Clean balconies and windows daily. • Perform any additional duties as requested by the supervisor.
Job requirements:
• The applicant should preferably be able to read and write.
• At least one year of professional experience in the cleaning field.
