CodeWomen+ & MigraCode Project Assistant At Open Cultural Center

Main tasks

  • Participating in all CodeWomen+ & MigraCode events in person to welcome and register participants, managing the logistics at the event (food & drinks, contact with host, preparing materials) and presenting the project if needed.
  • Supporting and facilitating the organisation of events and classes by contacting participants and volunteers and updating our database (Airtable) with the relevant information.
  • Managing volunteers through Google Calendar invites, Slack reminders, emails, and calls.
  • Liaising with hosting partners where needed.
  • Drafting engaging Eventbrite and email invitations, as well as writing thank you notes to send by email or post on social media.
  • Supporting the organisation’s communications team in creating content about the project for Instagram, LinkedIn and the web page.
  • Moderating the online communication channels through engaging interactions with the community on WhatsApp groups and Slack channels.
  • Supporting the mentorship programs by matching community members with volunteer mentors and following up on mentorship development.
  • Taking part in ESC activities (organising team-building activities, raising awareness in schools, etc.) and the ESC annual project
  • Supporting the rest of the team when needed and participating actively in the organisation’s activities.

Requirements

  • People person, proactive and happy to help others, comfortable with reaching out to strangers and networking.
  • Independent and creative, able to come up with ideas, find new ways of doing things, and suggest improvements.
  • Good command of English (Spanish is a great advantage)
  • Flexibility (to attend classes on Saturdays and events in the evenings of weekdays)
  • Volunteer experience with event organisation.
  • Able to manage deadlines, plan ahead, and anticipate problems.
  • Comfortable with software tools and interested in learning to use new systems, like Slack, Airtable and Notion.
  • Writing skills (e.g. writing engaging texts for event promotion and to reach out to different stakeholders)
  • Enthusiastic and committed to achieving more diversity in the tech sector.
  • An intersectional feminist perspective.

Nice to have:

  • Knowledge in journalism, communication or community management.
  • Interest in the field of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion.
  • Interest in the field of Migration, Refugees and Asylum.
  • Interest in developing tech skills (web development, data science).
  • Knowledge of other languages (Darija, Catalan, French, etc.);

Eligibility

To participate in the ESC Volunteering program, you are required to meet the following criteria:

  • Being between 18 – 30 years old
  • Being an EU resident or a resident in one of the mentioned partner countries (Neighbouring the EU)
  • Being available for 12 months
  • No Prior ESC Participation

What do we offer?

Our volunteering program is funded by the European Commission through the European Solidarity Corps program. This means that volunteering provides:

  • Travel costs coverage: Up to the limits established in the Erasmus+ Guide distance calculator from the volunteer’s region of residency to our centre
  • Free Accommodation (shared room): Provided in the centre of Barcelona. The flat is fully equipped (kitchen, bathrooms, washing machine, wifi, etc
  • Monthly allowance: 330 euros per month
  • Insurance: Henner
