Communication and Media Officer (Officier(ere) Communication et Medias – REPONSE EBOLA) At International Rescue Committee

Objective of this contract

Contribute to consistent and effective communication on the IRC’s response to the Ebola epidemic, enhance the visibility of interventions among stakeholders, document program results and support the weekly production of SITREPs.

Main responsibilities

  • Ensure the visibility of interventions in accordance with IRC standards and donor requirements;
  • Writing success stories, testimonials, field articles and impact narratives;
  • Collect photographs, videos, interviews and testimonials according to IRC standards;
  • Create and update a multimedia content bank (Box) on the Ebola Response;
  • Develop and update a database of media outlets as well as local, national and international audiovisual service providers;
  • Ensure the dissemination of content related to the Ebola response to national media;
  • Facilitate and support press visits to intervention sites;
  • To provide daily media monitoring of the evolution of the epidemic and the humanitarian response;
  • Collect from sectoral teams the data necessary for the weekly production of SITREP;
  • Support the production and dissemination of messages for the prevention and control of the epidemic;
  • Participate in Ebola response coordination meetings.

Expected results/effects of this contract

  • One (1) consolidated weekly SitRep integrating data, activities and achievements from all sectors involved in the Ebola response is produced and disseminated each week;
  • A press review analyzing media coverage of the epidemic and response interventions is prepared and shared with the emergency team each week;
  • One (1) weekly media monitoring and rumor management note, highlighting information trends, community perceptions and disinformation risks, is produced and disseminated;
  • At least six (6) success stories are documented, validated and disseminated each month to the teams involved, partners and funders;
  • At least one (1) B-roll (video testimonials, portraits or illustrative sequences) highlighting the results and impact of the interventions is produced and uploaded to the “Contents” folder of the Ebola response each month;
  • At least ten (10) professional-quality photographs, duly captioned and accompanied by consent forms for each story, are uploaded monthly to the “Content” folder and shared with internal and external stakeholders;
  • At least two (2) short videos or audiovisual clips are produced and uploaded each month to the “Content” folder, then shared with various stakeholders, including donors, and broadcast on the Country Director’s LinkedIn page as well as by national media;
  • The multimedia bank (Box) is updated regularly to ensure the systematic archiving, organization and accessibility of all content collected in the field.

Resources needed

The communications and media officer will be placed under the hierarchical supervision of the Communications and Advocacy Coordinator.

Qualifications

  • University degree (Bachelor’s or Master’s) in Information and Communication Sciences (multimedia option)
  • Minimum 3 years of professional experience in humanitarian communication, media or public relations
  • Practical knowledge in taking photos and videos
  • Knowledge of Adobe Creative Cloud applications
  • Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office 365 collaboration tools: MS Office Word, PowerPoint and Publisher, SharePoint, Teams.
