Position Purpose:
The Cultural & Education Officer is responsible for designing and delivering cultural and informal education programs that support refugee communities. The role aims to foster mutual understanding and respect between refugees and host communities, while also addressing the educational needs of refugee children by providing informal learning opportunities that preserve linguistic identity and enhance integration prospects.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Cultural Education for Refugees
– Plan, organize, and facilitate cultural education sessions to promote respect for ethnicity, beliefs, and diversity.
– Develop interactive and inclusive learning materials that encourage cultural exchange between refugees and host communities.
– Strengthen mutual respect, tolerance, and social cohesion through community-driven cultural activities.
2. Informal Education for Refugee Children
– Deliver informal education sessions focusing on basic Arabic language skills to refugee children.
– Support children in maintaining their cultural and linguistic identity while preparing them for future reintegration into formal education systems.
– Create age-appropriate and engaging educational content to address learning gaps.
– Monitor and evaluate children’s progress and adapt teaching methods to meet their individual needs.
3. Program Support and Community Engagement
– Collaborate with community leaders, NGOs, and education stakeholders to ensure effective program delivery.
– Conduct needs assessments to identify cultural and educational priorities within refugee communities.
– Collect feedback from participants to improve program quality and effectiveness.
4. Reporting and Administration
– Maintain accurate records of attendance, session outcomes, and participant feedback.
– Prepare regular reports on program activities, challenges, and impact for management and donors.
– Ensure that all activities are conducted in alignment with organizational policies and safeguarding standards.
Qualifications and Experience:
– Bachelor’s degree in education, Social Sciences, Cultural Studies, or related field (master’s degree preferred).
– Minimum of 2 years’ experience in education, cultural programming, or community engagement (experience with refugee communities is an asset).
– Strong understanding of cultural diversity, inclusion, and community dynamics.
– Experience in teaching, training, or facilitation, particularly with children and vulnerable groups.
– Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
– Proficiency in Arabic and Turkish/English as applicable.
