Compensation: This is a volunteer or self-funded position. We will work together to secure funding to transition this role to paid employment as funding becomes available.
What Young Peacebuilders Does
Young Peacebuilders empowers children and youth in conflict-affected regions to become effective peacebuilders through Young Peacebuilders Clubs. We provide online training, mentorship, and support to partner organizations implementing youth-led peacebuilding projects in countries including USA, Ukraine, Sierra Leone, Liberia, Uganda, Nigeria, and Democratic Republic of Congo. Description
The Deputy Director will partner with the Executive Director to lead organizational growth during a pivotal period. With automated membership sales and multiple partnership cohorts underway, YP needs leadership to secure sustainable funding and/or sales, strengthen board capacity, and scale impact. The successful candidate will have primary responsibility for fundraising, board development, and operational management while working closely with the ED on strategy and partner relationships.
Primary Responsibilities
Fundraising & Resource Development (Priority)
- Develop and implement comprehensive fundraising strategy across foundations, individual donors, and institutional funders, and product sales
- Write grant proposals and concept notes for major funding opportunities ($10K-$500K range)
- Cultivate relationships with prospective donors and prepare compelling cases for support
- Work with board members on fundraising outreach activities
- Explore revenue model development including membership scaling and “buy one, give one” approaches
Operations & Team Management
- Oversee volunteer HR Director, Communications Manager, and new team members
- Manage organizational systems, compliance, and administrative functions
- Coordinate volunteer recruitment and deployment across teams
- Ensure efficient operations that support program delivery and growth
Partnership & Program Support
- Support cohort management processes including partner communications and progress tracking
- Coordinate content gathering for impact reporting and social media
- Work with ED on technical expertise delivery to partners
- Contribute to strategic planning and organizational development
External Representation
- Represent Young Peacebuilders at conferences, with potential partners, and in professional networks
- Build relationships with organizations, churches, and schools that could benefit from Young Peacebuilders Clubs
- Strengthen YP’s visibility and credibility in the peacebuilding sector
Board Development & Governance
- Assist with board expansion strategy to strengthen fundraising capacity and organizational governance
- Support quarterly board meetings with materials, agendas, and follow-up on action items
- Build board member commitment to fundraising and strategic priorities
Qualifications
Required:
- Passionate commitment to YP’s mission of empowering youth as peacebuilders
- 5+ years in management, nonprofit or business leadership, or equivalent roles
- Proven ability to build relationships and mobilize resources
- Outstanding written and verbal communication skills
- Self-directed work style with ability to manage multiple priorities
- Strategic thinking with operational follow-through
- Experience working across cultures and with international partners
Strongly Preferred:
- Track record in fundraising from foundations, major donors, or institutional sources
- Experience in nonprofit board development and governance
- Background in peacebuilding, youth development, international development, or related fields
- Network of relationships with potential funders or partner organizations
- Demonstrated ability to write compelling proposals and cases for support
Assets:
- Personal fundraising relationships or connections to philanthropic networks
- Marketing or sales background applicable to membership scaling
- Experience building organizational systems and capacity during growth phases
