Still I Rise is an international NGO with a humanitarian mission to provide protection and quality education to migrants and disadvantaged youth. Based in Lucero Bajo, we operate the Still I Rise International School in Bogotá, Colombia. Here, we are passionately dedicated to one of the most ambitious, unique, and exciting educational projects in the world: providing the highest-quality educational experience to some of the most disadvantaged children.

We are currently seeking an open-minded, thoughtful, and creative Design teacher to join our team. You will inspire and educate children in Design classes that follow the prestigious International Baccalaureate (IB) curriculum. We are a bilingual school. Although most classes will be taught in Spanish, you must have at least a C1 level of English proficiency to be able to interact comfortably with students in English outside of school hours and participate in staff meetings in English.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Plan, deliver, and facilitate dynamic, active, and creative Digital and Product Design classes for diverse classes of students aged 9-15. Create enhanced opportunities for real-life application of concepts using available resources and inquiry-based learning.
  • Review and monitor the progress of all students and identify their individual learning needs. Differentiate instruction to meet students’ needs, providing additional support to those below grade level.
  • Assume leadership roles or contribute with other teachers in coordinating roles in various inter-school activities.
  • Provide sensitive and appropriate care to our students from disadvantaged backgrounds. Handle urgent situations with consummate professionalism and in accordance with our Discipline Policy and Safeguarding Policy, utilizing the school’s support network as needed.
  • Conduct regular formative and summative assessments, recording and reporting on grades and performance.
  • Attend and participate in periodic professional development activities.
  • Help our school excel through your participation and leadership in community activities, contests, field trips, and other activities.
  • Contribute to the development and leadership of our extracurricular programs.
  • Lead one of the school’s specific coordinations in a proactive manner and with a visionary approach
  • Under the supervision of the MYP Coordinator, provide feedback on quality and well-being to ensure that programs are designed, implemented, monitored, and evaluated to maximize the positive impact on vulnerable children.

ESSENTIAL CRITERIA:

  • Demonstrate the attributes of the IB Profile ( https://www.ibo.org/benefits/learner-profile/ ), particularly risk-taking, open-minded, and reflective.
  • Excellent level of written and spoken English, at least C1.
  • Academic or professional certificates.
  • Passing the criminal record check (CRB).
  • Bachelor’s degree in Design, Science, ICT, Communication, Education or a related field, or equivalent training and experience.
  • Teaching experience.
  • Computer skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and organizational skills.
  • Ability to guide students on a daily basis.
  • Resilience in a challenging and changing environment.
  • Curiosity and willingness to develop and practice modern teaching techniques.
  • Ability to work in a team.

DESIRABLE CRITERIA:

  • Experience in teaching students with low academic performance.
  • Experience in working with migrant populations.
  • Experience working with vulnerable people.
  • Experience in child protection and safeguarding.
  • Experience in content creation, communication, social media, storytelling, and/or photography or video.
