MEDICAL DOCTOR

The employee’s main activity:
Providing outpatient and/or inpatient medical care to beneficiaries, using modern and adapted medical knowledge in accordance with MSF protocols and values ​​and adhering to universal hygiene standards, with the aim of improving the health status of beneficiaries.
Main responsibilities:
- Apply medical knowledge and skills for diagnosis and prevention. Conduct outpatient and inpatient consultations, prescribe necessary treatment, following MSF protocols.
- Inform the beneficiary and/or their family about the course of the illness and provide explanations regarding the necessary treatment, checking that they understand.
- Monitor the condition of hospitalized/IDP beneficiaries through daily visits, consultations and examinations, prescribe necessary treatment according to MSF protocols, decide whether they can be discharged or transferred to other departments (in collaboration with other doctors), and inform relatives about the beneficiary’s condition.
- Check and control the rational distribution of medicines and equipment for which the doctor is responsible, take care of the quality, disinfection and sterilization of medical materials. Ensure general compliance with current hygiene standards.
- Participate in the collection and analysis of epidemiological data, verifying their reliability, inform the immediate supervisor or project coordinator about any problem, complication of the beneficiary’s illness, medical error, and monitor the proper functioning of the department, equipment, and materials.
- Provide continuous training for the multidisciplinary team, consisting of medical and paramedical personnel, in order to optimize the quality of medical care.
- Know and ensure compliance with all MSF medical protocols, constantly verifying compliance with universal precautions, reducing biohazard risks and improving infection control. Ensure compliance with professional confidentiality.
- Manage the team for which the doctor is directly responsible, adhering to MSF personnel regulations and rules, supervise their work, plan and organize shift and rotation schedules, and, if necessary, directly participate in the provision of emergency care and on-call duty.
Features of the MSF unit:
- Work as the leader of the MSF trauma team and directly provide medical care in the emergency departments, covering the needs of the hospitals in Okhtyrka and/or Trostyanka.
- Work in intensive care units of emergency departments.
- Conduct clinical training for emergency department staff to develop their professional skills.
- Regularly monitor the quality of medical care and the correct implementation of protocols.
- If necessary, participate in the analysis of morbidity and mortality cases in accordance with the requirements of the Ministry of Health.
The project is currently based in the Sumy region of Ukraine with the possibility of changing locations depending on the context. It is important to note that this is a stressful environment due to proximity to the line of active combat.
We plan to recruit additional medical capacity to support overstretched staff in selected hospitals in Sumy region, including by supporting Okhtyrka and Trostyanetska hospitals and ambulance services; therefore, we are particularly interested in receiving applications from candidates currently residing and working in central and western Ukraine. We plan to make work shifts flexible to meet operational needs, and accommodation will depend on the type of shifts to be implemented.
REQUIREMENTS:
Education:
- Medical degree. Diploma in tropical medicine preferred (for OCB/OCBA missions – Operations Center Brussels / Operations Center Barcelona-Athens – specialization in tropical medicine is very important).
Experience:
- At least 2 years of experience as a physician or in clinical practice (may be within medical training).
- Experience in tropical medicine or postgraduate experience in the fields of public health, obstetrics and gynecology, pediatrics, anesthesiology, infectious diseases, HIV/AIDS/STIs, tuberculosis, general practice, internal medicine or minor surgery is desirable.
Language skills: fluent Ukrainian; knowledge of English desirable.
