Background

The International Development Company, a Research & Development organization headquartered in Quebec, Canada, is seeking experts with the profiles below for a project in Chad.

The role requires a minimum commitment of 2 years , with the possibility of a longer-term extension.

Mission objectives

The mission aims to implement the PCTT project support measures relating to raising awareness among the population on (i) environmental protection, (ii) health and safety on the construction site and (iii) STIs/HIV/AIDS in the Project areas.

In general, the Project’s activities would increase the risk of environmentally harmful behaviors (deforestation, poaching, pollution, etc.), social risks including child labor, traffic accidents, and the spread of sexually transmitted infections (STIs) due to the mobilization of a workforce from outside the project area. It is therefore essential to identify and implement appropriate actions to avoid or reduce negative impacts within the project’s area of ​​influence (ABI).

The overall objective is to mitigate the negative impacts of project activities on the environment and the local population.

The specific objectives are:

  • Preserve the water resources of the ZIP;
  • Supporting the implementation of the Biodiversity Management Plan
  • Prohibit child labor on construction sites;
  • Support the implementation of environmental and social management measures, including the Complaints Management Mechanism;

Job description

The consultant must contribute in collaboration with other team members to

  1. Design training modules on different topics;
  2. Identify facilitators or Peer Educators at the community level;
  3. Organize training workshops;
  4. Establish a network of Peer Educators;
  5. Define the communication routes best suited to the reality of the project area;
  6. Raising awareness among the population about the selected themes;
  7. Train two (02) people per village on first aid procedures in case of traffic accidents;
  8. Organize voluntary screening tests for 3,000 men/women/young people;
  9. Raising public awareness about risky traditional and medical practices.
  10. To popularize the most relevant national texts and those ratified by the Republic of Chad that are related to the project’s activities;
  11. Propose a mechanism for ensuring the sustainability of achievements;

Qualifications and skills

  1. Bachelor’s degree (3 years post-high school) in environmental science, social science or other relevant field;
  2. At least 3 years of experience in project management or in a management position;
  3. A good knowledge of written and spoken French;
  4. Possess excellent analytical, writing and summarization skills;
  5. Knowing how to communicate and showing humility towards beneficiaries and stakeholders.
