Why we need you
Epidemiological issues are at the heart of Médecins du Monde’s health projects: quality of practices, methodology of studies, scientific rigor, ethical vigilance and management of applied research work.
We are currently seeking an epidemiology specialist to support our teams in the design, monitoring, and completion of diverse research projects, both in France and internationally. This position is to replace the current epidemiology specialist during their sabbatical from July 1, 2026, to April 2, 2027.
You will provide structured methodological support , a critical perspective and expertise in public health to ensure the scientific quality of the work, operational relevance and respect for ethical standards.
Your tasks
👉 Methodological support for research projects
- Supporting teams in the methodological design of studies (definition of needs, study framework, criteria, protocols).
- Advise on collection methods, ensure data quality and oversee relevant analysis of results.
- Participate in the drafting and review of research tools, protocols, questionnaires and related documents.
👉 Monitoring of ongoing projects
- Monitoring projects at different stages: design, implementation, finalization. Some require close support, others occasional monitoring.
- Contribute to the production of scientific reports and articles , in conjunction with field teams and potential partners.
👉 Ethical monitoring and scientific quality
- Identify and report ethical concerns: inclusion of vulnerable populations, post-collection care, compliance with research requirements.
- Ensure compliance with agreements and commitments with research partners; raise the alarm if necessary.
👉 Critical analysis and monitoring of partners
- Evaluate the methodological consistency and operational relevance of the projects.
- Intervene if deliverables are delayed or if the planned inclusion criteria/methods are not met.
👉 Support for cross-cutting projects
- Contribute to cross-cutting research work (ethics, artificial intelligence, methodological orientations).
- Participate in organizing exchanges with the field teams to define needs and priorities.
👉 Supervision of interns
- To supervise and support interns according to their needs, with follow-up tailored to each individual’s profile.
Your colleagues
Within the Health Advocacy department, you will join the Research and Learning team, supervised by Stéphanie Nguengang Wakap , your future manager.
You will work closely with:
- The health teams (operations),
- Project coordinators,
- The plea,
- The team members of the department, and more specifically, the social sciences coordinator.
The environment is multidisciplinary, demanding but collaborative, with a strong diversity of profiles and expertise.

You are the right person if…
- You are a healthcare professional (doctor, nurse, midwife, etc.) and/or you have completed higher education in epidemiology or public health .
- You have significant experience in the development, implementation and monitoring of epidemiological studies .
- You master all the stages of a research project (design, choice and development of research methods, management of regulatory aspects, collection and statistical analysis of data, project management, report writing, publication of research work and scientific articles, valorization of results).
- You have experience in mixed research or collaboration with the social sciences as well as knowledge of the community approach .
- You know how to identify and report ethical concerns (inclusion of vulnerable populations, post-collection care, compliance with research requirements)
- You demonstrate vigilance in respecting collaboration agreements and commitments with research partners, and know how to raise the alarm if necessary.
- You demonstrate critical thinking and are able to question a project when necessary.
- You enjoy teamwork and know how to listen .
- You are organized and have a sense of priorities .
This position is not for you if…
- You favour highly standardized academic research: here, field contexts require constant adaptation.
- You feel uneasy in the face of institutional constraints or slowness, as well as in environments where everyone readily gives their opinion, including on technical subjects outside their field of expertise, and where it is necessary to navigate between different points of view.
- You are not comfortable with the idea of ​​adapting your recommendations to operational realities.
- You are afraid that you do not identify with the values ​​and activist stance of Doctors of the World.
