A PROPOS D’OXFAM
Oxfam is a global development organization that mobilizes people’s power against poverty. It is a confederation of 21 organizations (“affiliates”) working with partners and local communities in more than 85 countries.
Oxfam has responded to the Confederation’s need to be more balanced and globally relevant in the new economic order. In line with this ambition, Oxfam Senegal will operate as an autonomous entity (affiliate) and a member of the Oxfam confederation. This affiliation will perpetuate and continue the work Oxfam has done in Senegal since 1981, promote social change in Senegal, make the voice of Francophone Africa heard within the confederation as the first Francophone affiliate in Africa, and amplify West African and pan-African voices.
THE POST
Oxfam Senegal, legally registered as a national NGO, is on the cusp of an exciting transition for Oxfam’s presence in the country and its role in the confederation.
To this end, Oxfam is seeking an experienced Executive Director who will lead the establishment of Oxfam Senegal as an independent affiliate within the Oxfam confederation and drive the implementation of the program strategy. The executive leadership will be overseen by the Oxfam Senegal Board. The Board will provide the necessary advice and guidance, and the Executive Director will ensure that the mission and strategic direction are achieved. This role will ensure the implementation and delivery of programs, through long-term development, influencing and campaigning, as well as humanitarian programs, in accordance with Oxfam’s mission and values and in alignment with regional and global objectives. The executive leadership will also contribute to the leadership of the Oxfam Confederation, in collaboration with the executive directors of other affiliates and the management of Oxfam International.
WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR
This critical period marks an important milestone for Oxfam’s presence in Senegal, and we are seeking an innovative, inspiring, and inclusive leader to guide us through this process. The ideal candidate will be a senior manager or executive director in a national or international non-governmental organization with a strong grasp of feminist leadership and transformation management in complex organizations. They will have extensive experience in strategic advocacy and partnership management to ensure Oxfam Senegal’s visibility and impact. They will also have experience in program management, financial management, and compliance, including fundraising.
If you are passionate about driving change and making a meaningful impact, we invite you to join us in this transformational phase.
THE ORGANIZATION
Oxfam Senegal will work to foster systemic change and strengthen systems in the areas where we operate, with more localized leadership in development and humanitarian spaces. This will be achieved through the implementation of a One Oxfam Programme approach and the application of three key programmatic focus areas that will have specific objectives contributing to the vision. These areas are:
- Just economies : Structural transformations and just transitions are promoted in priority development sectors and contribute to the emergence of prosperous, sustainable, responsible and inclusive economies.
- Equality & Equity: People, especially vulnerable communities, benefit from a fair and equal environment that provides opportunities for all.
- Environment & Climate Change: Communities affected by climate change and environmental degradation, particularly women and youth, are at the forefront of strong and inclusive movements for environmental and climate justice.
