Job Summary

The Field Photographer is responsible for documenting the medical, humanitarian, and community activities of the NGO through high-quality photographs. The role supports communications, reporting, fundraising, and advocacy by capturing ethical, accurate, and compelling visual stories from the field while respecting patient dignity, privacy, and medical ethics.

Key Responsibilities

  • Photograph medical activities such as:
    • Clinics, hospitals, mobile medical units, and field missions
    • Doctors, nurses, and healthcare workers during service delivery
    • Community outreach, vaccination campaigns, and health education sessions
  • Capture human-centered stories that reflect:
    • Patient experiences (with informed consent)
    • Impact of medical programs on communities
    • Emergency and humanitarian response efforts
  • Ensure all photography complies with:
    • Medical confidentiality and patient privacy standards
    • NGO ethical guidelines and informed consent policies
  • Organize, edit, and deliver photographs according to NGO standards:
    • Proper file naming, metadata, and archiving
    • Basic photo editing (color correction, cropping) without altering reality
  • Work closely with:
    • Medical teams, field coordinators, and communications staff
    • Program managers for reporting and donor documentation
  • Provide visual content for:
    • Reports to donors and partners
    • Website, social media, brochures, and awareness campaigns

Required Qualifications

  • Proven experience as a photographer, preferably in:
    • Humanitarian, medical, or NGO environments
  • Strong portfolio demonstrating documentary or field photography
  • Ability to work in challenging environments (remote, emergency, or high-pressure settings)
  • Understanding of ethical photography, especially involving patients and vulnerable populations
  • Basic photo editing skills (Adobe Lightroom, Photoshop, or equivalent)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working with medical or humanitarian organizations
  • Knowledge of storytelling for NGOs and donor communication
  • Familiarity with consent procedures in medical or humanitarian contexts
  • Ability to write short captions or photo descriptions
  • Experience in low-resource or emergency settings
