Global Communities is seeking a Financial Specialist for an early bird project**.** This program will last approximately 1.5 to 2 years and will support groups of producers practicing subsistence agriculture to achieve increases in production and productivity, inserting them into the formal market through the promotion and incentive of productive alliances, the adoption of practices and approaches aimed at preventing or mitigating the adverse effects of climate change, as well as small Business Groups to offer technical assistance, complementary goods to primary production and/or transformation and agro-logistical services to primary producers.

The Financial Specialist will be responsible for the financial management of productive investments generated through the project and its activities. This will include, but is not limited to, facilitating, with the project’s technical team, the formulation, implementation, and closure of agribusiness projects (business plans), nutrition and hygiene plans, and school feeding plans, including the allocation of public and private resources with the goal of achieving competitive companies that are capitalized through fixed investments (works and assets), working capital, marketing, etc. We are looking for passionate and dedicated professionals to help us build the world we envision: one of expanded opportunities, where crises give way to resilience, and all people prosper.

Responsibilities:

Field implementation:

  • Collaborate with technical team members, including the Agribusiness Specialist, Environmental Specialist, Social Specialist, Community Health and Nutrition Specialist, and field technicians, to develop and implement the tools necessary to formulate agroforestry subproject business plans, nutrition and hygiene plans, and school feeding plans.
  • Train and provide follow-up support to field technicians in the implementation of business plan tools and their supervision.
  • Develop and implement systems to track the mobilization, investment, disbursement, and, where appropriate, return on investment of resources in support of agroforestry, community health and nutrition, and school feeding projects.
  • Review and approve the planning and reporting of weekly activities carried out by the staff under his/her supervision, and report to the General Coordinator on weekly summaries of relevant activities.
  • Coordinate activities with strategic partners in the geographic area under their responsibility and with the project’s field technicians.
  • Ensure the achievement of goals and objectives and the quality of the project’s technical assistance.
  • Collaborate with the Monitoring and Evaluation Unit to prepare periodic reports (monthly, quarterly, and annual) that will be sent to project management stakeholders at the agreed-upon intervals.
  • Exercise administrative and disciplinary supervision of the personnel under his/her charge.
  • Support the evaluation of existing microenterprises run by women.
  • Direct the work of team members under their charge, applying planning, supervision, monitoring, and evaluation processes for their roles, responsibilities, and achievements.
  • Propose and provide technical and administrative assistance to beneficiaries and strategic allies.
  • Attend to any additional activities assigned to you.

Key requirements

  • University graduate with a bachelor’s degree in administrative sciences, finance, accounting, economics, international trade, or business; and a master’s degree in any subject area related to project investments.
  • At least five (5) years of experience in the financial area with emphasis on agribusiness in the public or private sector.
  • Proven experience in the design, formulation, and/or financial analysis of agricultural business plans.
  • Proven experience in designing and/or facilitating financing schemes or instruments for small and medium-sized agricultural producers in rural areas.
  • Proven experience working with private financial institutions.
  • Proven experience in processing applications, approvals, and monitoring of agricultural loans at Public Financial Institutions (PFIs).
  • Proven experience demonstrating knowledge of the regulatory framework of the national financial system.
  • Proven experience in managing financial analysis software.
  • Negotiation of agreements, accords, and contracts at any level.
  • Knowledge and use of computer programs: word processors, spreadsheets. Office software, internet browsing, and email management.
  • Ease of verbal and written communication.
  • Leadership and ease of coordination with technical teams from different disciplines.
  • 100% proficiency in Spanish (spoken, read, and written).

Qualifications:

  • Verifiable experience in application procedures, approval, and follow-up of agricultural loans in IFPs.
  • Verifiable experience that evidences knowledge of the regulatory framework of the national financial system.
