Job summary:
The Gender-Based Violence Prevention Officer is responsible for planning, implementing, and monitoring prevention and community awareness activities, and working with local communities to promote positive behaviors and reduce risk factors associated with gender-based violence. The role includes coordinating with multi-sectoral teams and partners, supporting community-based protection mechanisms, building capacity, ensuring adherence to protection principles and humanitarian standards, and contributing to data collection and reporting to ensure the quality and effectiveness of implemented programs.
Main duties and responsibilities:
- Planning and implementing gender-based violence prevention activities and programs in accordance with the organization’s policies and international humanitarian standards.
- Implementing community awareness and education sessions on gender concepts, gender-based violence, protection, and safe referral mechanisms.
- Working directly with local communities, including women, girls, men and youth, to promote positive behaviors and reduce harmful practices.
- Supporting, forming, and strengthening community committees and support groups that contribute to violence prevention and the promotion of a safe environment.
- Coordination with protection, health, education, and livelihoods teams to ensure that GBV prevention activities are integrated into the various programs.
- Identifying risk and protection factors within the community and contributing to the development of risk reduction plans.
- Ensuring that basic protection principles, including confidentiality, informed consent, and do no harm, are applied in all activities.
- Contributing to data collection, documentation, and the preparation of periodic reports on activities and results, while adhering to information management policies.
- Building the capacity of local workers, volunteers, and partners in the field of gender-based violence prevention.
- Monitoring and evaluating the quality of activities implemented, and providing recommendations to improve programs based on community needs.
- Basic requirements:
- One to two years of experience in humanitarian work related to managing cases of gender-based violence.
- High efficiency in coordinating local efforts to meet the needs of vulnerable survivors
- Good skills in using Microsoft Office programs
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Working as a team and taking the initiative to carry out tasks assigned by the team leader.
- Familiarity with and commitment to humanitarian standards.
- To be familiar with the advanced problem-solving software
- Desired requirements:
- University degree in social work, psychology, protection, or any related field.
- Previous experience working with Women and Girls Safe Spaces (WGSS).
- Effective communication skills and the ability to deal with beneficiaries with high sensitivity.
- Organizational skills, time management, and the ability to work under pressure.
