The Stop Killer Robots campaign is excited to announce that we are seeking a Head of Communications and Resource Mobilisation to join our team in Geneva. The Head of Communications and Resource Mobilisation is responsible for promoting Stop Killer Robots’ work and goals, including advancing a legally binding instrument on autonomous weapons and new regulations governing the use of AI in the use of force. The role leads communications through Stop Killer Robots’ digital channels and identifies and engages with relevant media and other communications opportunities.
The role also leads efforts to identify fundraising opportunities and supports the preparation of relevant donor proposals, reports, and other fund development activities.
Reporting to the Executive Director, the Head of Communications and Resource Mobilisation works closely with other members of the staff team and ensures regular and effective updates to campaign members and the Steering Committee.
The purpose of this role is to shape how our campaign and mission are communicated across digital channels and media, while driving the fundraising strategy that sustains and grows our impact. You will work closely with coalition members, partners, media contacts, and donors to strengthen our visibility, influence, and financial sustainability.
We’re looking for someone with a strong communications background who is creative, innovative, and able to tailor messages for different audiences to broaden our reach and increase our impact. You will be able to work strategically and operationally to lead our communications and campaigning work, identify key stakeholders and target audiences, and develop compelling narratives and content that bring our work to life.
You are a strong storyteller who can translate complex policy and advocacy issues into engaging stories about killer robots and the use of AI in the military/security domains. You are highly organised, able to juggle multiple priorities, and comfortable working collaboratively to turn our policy and advocacy messages into accessible, compelling communications for wider audiences, including funders and supporters.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Strategic direction and management
- Work with global campaign members and the staff team to develop advocacy and communications strategies and execution plans, applying strong project management skills to support their effective delivery;
- Lead the development and implementation of the organisation’s communications strategy, ensuring that communications activities support campaign, advocacy, and organisational objectives;
- Contribute to organisational planning and budgeting, including monitoring expenditure against available resources and programmatic priorities, with particular responsibility for communications-related funds.
Communications and Public Engagement
- Manage and grow the Campaign to Stop Killer Robots’ digital channels , developing and publishing engaging and accessible content regularly and building meaningful relationships and user journeys with audiences across relevant platforms;
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with journalists, editors, and other media contacts, serving as a key point of contact for press enquiries and media engagement, while proactively identifying and pursuing opportunities to raise the campaign’s profile and position its analysis and spokespeople in relevant public debates.
- Lead the design and delivery of public awareness and communications campaigns, from concept development and audience identification through to messaging, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation;
- Provide communications support, guidance, and practical tools to coalition members and campaign partners, helping to promote coherent, effective, and impactful messaging across the network;
- Develop and maintain a media monitoring system that enables the staff team to track and respond to developments, debates, and narratives relating to autonomous weapons and the use of AI in the military domain;
- Work closely with the Head of Policy and Head of Government Outreach & Advocacy to ensure that the campaign’s issues, analysis, and mission are consistently and effectively represented in public discourse.
Digital, Visual and Brand Communications
- Oversee the production and management of the campaign’s visual content, including photography, video, graphics, and other digital assets, while personally undertaking photography and videography where appropriate;
- Produce, edit, and publish short-form video content for the campaign’s digital channels;
- Support the maintenance and updating of the Campaign to Stop Killer Robots website, ensuring content is accurate, accessible, timely, and engaging;
- Produce regular newsletter updates to a range of audiences that accurately and engagingly report on the Campaign’s work and which encourages relevant audiences to take actions to support the Campaign..
- Ensure consistency and coherence across the Campaign to Stop Killer Robots’ visual identity and public-facing materials, including its logo and core design elements;
- Update and maintain a practical branding guide and supporting resources for use by campaigners and coalition members, working with campaigners (and external contractors) to ensure that the public facing content they produce adheres to these guidelines.
- Ensure that digital and visual communications are accessible and tailored to different audiences and platforms.
Resource Mobilization
- Support the development of high-quality funding proposals and applications, contributing to compelling narratives, budgets, and supporting materials tailored to different donor requirements and funding priorities;
- Research, identify, and track new funding opportunities across sectors, including institutional, government, private sector, and philanthropic sources, and share relevant opportunities with the team;
- Support the cultivation and maintenance of relationships with donors and funding partners, including private sector partners, foundations, and other institutional funders;
- Support the organisation’s participation in key fundraising events and donor engagement opportunities, helping to strengthen relationships and raise the organisation’s profile among current and prospective supporters;
- Contribute to the development of crowdfunding and other public fundraising initiatives aimed at diversifying income and engaging new audiences in supporting the campaign’s mission;
- Contribute to the implementation of the organisation’s resource mobilisation strategy, working closely with leadership and colleagues to strengthen and diversify the funding base.
Qualifications

Personal specification
You have:
- A university degree or equivalent professional experience in communications, international relations, political science, journalism, media, or a related field;
- At least seven (7) years of relevant professional experience in communications, public engagement, campaigning, fundraising, or a related field, with substantial experience in communications;
- Demonstrated experience developing and implementing communications strategies and campaigns, ideally in an international NGO, advocacy, campaigning, human rights, disarmament, humanitarian, or related environment;
- Demonstrated experience in raising funds;
- Experience working with media and building relationships with journalists and other external stakeholders;
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in english and in french, spanish or arabic, with the ability to translate complex issues into clear, compelling, and accessible messages for expert and non-expert audiences;
- Strong digital communications and social media skills, with experience managing organisational or campaign accounts across relevant platforms (e.g. LinkedIn, Instagram, Bluesky, X, TikTok, Facebook);
- Familiarity with newsletter marketing platforms (e.g. Mailchimp) and creating user journeys that convert viewers into active supporters (i.e. through donations, participating in petitions etc.)
- Familiarity with using analytics across digital platforms to inform campaign and content strategy
- Experience producing and editing visual and multimedia content, including photography and video, and proficiency with relevant software such as Adobe Photoshop, Final Cut Pro, Adobe Premiere Pro, or equivalent tools;
- Familiarity with website content management systems (i.e. WordPress) and basic web publishing; experience with web design or digital content development would be an advantage;
- Excellent presentation and public speaking/storytelling skills;
- Excellent interpersonal, networking, relationship-building, and representation skills;
- An understanding of global issues relating to disarmament, international humanitarian and human rights law, the protection of civilians in armed conflict, autonomous weapons, and/or AI and emerging technologies;
- An understanding of multilateral discussions and processes within the United Nations system is preferred;
- A strong commitment to collaborative and team-based work, including the ability to work effectively with coalition members and partners from diverse backgrounds and organisations;
- Strong organisational and project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines;
- A strong commitment to the mission and values of the Campaign to Stop Killer Robots;
- An impeccable record of integrity and professional ethical standards.
