Who are we looking for?

We are looking for a strategically strong and entrepreneurial leader who is passionate about our mission and thinks commercially. As Head of Corporate & Major Donor Fundraising, you will provide direction to the team that builds relationships with companies, wealthy individuals and foundations. You are not only an experienced fundraiser, but also a connector, a coach and an inspiring figurehead of War Child.

You think big, dare to innovate and know how to get people moving, internally and externally. You are results-oriented without losing sight of the bigger goal: improving the lives of children in conflict areas.

You are not afraid to take the lead, see opportunities in a changing market and dare to experiment. At the same time, you know that sustainable impact starts with reliable processes, clear objectives and strong relationships.

Your responsibilities

Strategy and vision

  • Developing and implementing a future-proof fundraising strategy for corporate partners and major donors.
  • Actively contribute to the overarching strategy of War Child Netherlands and the War Child Alliance.
  • Identifying social trends and opportunities and translating these into innovative propositions and partnerships.
  • Ensure brand consistency and alignment with our communications and positioning strategy.

Team and leadership

  • Managing, coaching and developing an ambitious, self-managing team.
  • Creating a culture of performance, collaboration and engagement.
  • Ensuring a professional, data-driven approach in which results and quality are central.
  • Responsible for workforce planning, performance management and team development.

Relationship management and acquisition

  • Building and maintaining sustainable relationships with companies, foundations and wealthy individuals.
  • Leading in raising substantial donations and multi-year partnerships.
  • Representing War Child at a strategic level in external networks, meetings and events.

International growth and cooperation

  • Initiating (international) fundraising collaborations within the War Child Alliance.
  • Exploring new markets such as Belgium and Switzerland.
  • Connecting strategies and teams across borders.Compliance and accountability
  • Ensuring compliance with laws and regulations (such as GDPR and CBF guidelines).
  • Reporting on progress, risks and opportunities to management and board.
  • Responsible for correct and careful recording in the CRM system.

Your profile

  • You have strong strategic and commercial insight, with a proven track record in realizing substantial income. You have extensive experience in fundraising, sales or partnerships and you think commercially and mission-driven.
  • As a cooperating foreman/woman you are an inspiring leader with courage, vision and an entrepreneurial spirit. You know how to motivate, develop and connect people.
  • You follow your target group closely and know how to trigger giving behaviour with the right emotion, content or topicality. You know what is going on with your target group – both in terms of content and emotion. You think from their world and motivation.
  • You are analytically strong, data-driven and decisive.
  • You believe in the power of collaboration and build bridges to realize our ambitious fundraising ambitions, both internally within the War Child family and with external partners.
  • You communicate convincingly both internally and externally in Dutch and English. You have experience with networking at C-level and feel comfortable as a figurehead.
  • You are pragmatic – ‘keep it simple’ – and bring focus to your team and the organization. You show ownership and stimulate this in your employees.
  • You have knowledge of relevant legislation and regulations, CRM systems and fundraising best practices.

What we offer

  • Salary ranges from €5131 to €6380 gross per month, based on 40 hours per week (the exact amount is determined by the years of your relevant work experience)
  • 8% holiday allowance based on the annual salary
  • An employment contract for 40 hours
  • 29 days of vacation per year on a full-time basis (of which 3 predetermined days off)
  • A pension scheme fully paid for by War Child
  • Net contribution to home working and travel expenses according to our hybrid work policy
  • Monthly mobile phone allowance of €25 net per month

Our organization
War Child is a dynamic organization with an informal atmosphere and plenty of room for creativity and personal initiative. The image that War Child projects externally is a blueprint of the work at the head office: it is dynamic, innovative, honest and focused on achieving results at low costs. War Child spends as much of its budget as possible on helping children in war zones and therefore does everything it can to keep costs as low as possible. Our employment conditions are at the level of the Dutch NGO sector. The office is located in the Amsterdam district of Watergraafsmeer. We work in a hybrid way, with a combination of home, office and of course sometimes on the road to clients in this role.
