We have three research centers in France, Niger, and Uganda, and deploy epidemiologists. Our areas of expertise cover infectious diseases (malaria, TB, HIV, cholera, Ebola, etc.), neglected diseases (leishmaniasis, trypanosomiasis, etc.), and chronic diseases that are rapidly increasing in African countries, such as diabetes and cancer.

Job Description

Epicentre is recruiting an Epidemiological Activities Manager for the MSF France mission in Chad.

Mission :

  1. The Head of Epidemiological Activities works closely with the field and medical coordination teams to define and implement the monitoring of epidemiological activities related to MSF France (OCP) operations in Eastern Chad, while providing a comprehensive analysis and interpretation of the medical and epidemiological situation.
  2. He or she will have as his hierarchical supervisor the OCP MedCo of the Chad mission and under the functional/technical supervision of an Epicentre referent.

Main responsibilities:

Provide monitoring and support for MSF Epicentre studies:

  1. To provide support for the implementation of the study on the effectiveness of the molecules used during CPS
  2. Contributing to the capitalization and analysis of malaria data from Moissala and the effect of the CPS

Collect and monitor national surveillance data for Chad in order to track trends in notifiable diseases and malaria control.

Detect alerts from the surveillance system and maintain monitoring tools (linear lists, reports and prioritization support for vaccination responses).

Participate, as needed, in epidemic investigations and response activities.

To provide support to emergency teams according to needs (East Chad and potential future emergencies, displacements, natural disasters…) and to the national epidemiologist.

Implement, as needed, cross-sectional multi-indicator surveys or rapid assessments (nutritional assessment, retrospective mortality, vaccination coverage, CPS, etc.) according to the generic protocol developed by Epicentre.

Analyze the data (surveys, ad hoc requests from the coordination).

Provide methodological and technical support to teams in charge of exploratory missions and rapid assessments.

Produce a weekly report updating the epidemiological situation.

To coach and mentor the national epidemiologist and assess his capacity and autonomy to take over the position of epidemiologist.

Ensure the smooth flow of information with the lead epidemiologist at headquarters and in N’Djamena, the MSF Medical Coordinator, and the health authorities if necessary.

Qualifications

Training / Diploma

  • Degree in epidemiology or public health.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in field epidemiology.
  • Experience with MSF is highly desirable (a major asset).
  • Field experience in resource-limited environments, in research or within NGOs is also an asset.

Location: The position is based in N’Djamena with frequent travel to OCP projects in Chad.

Remuneration: level 10 of the MSF salary scale + benefits related to field positions.
