Context & Mission

In an increasingly complex accounting and tax environment, responsible for the proper management of the accounting for MSF Switzerland headquarters and ensuring its smooth operation.

Main responsibilities

Head office accounting supervision

• Determines the department’s objectives in collaboration with the Head of Global Accounting

  • Defines risk-appropriate accounting processes for MSF Switzerland.
  • Performs routine, monthly, quarterly, annual, etc. checks on the work of other members of the head office accounting department
  • Serves as a point of contact for accounting matters
  • Supports and trains other members of the accounting team, and more generally all staff during the deployment of tools impacting all employees (invoice management, expense reports, etc.)
  • Participate in employee evaluations

General and analytical accounting at headquarters

  • Ensures the correct accounting and monitoring of all balance sheet and profit and loss accounts monitored by the head office accounting department (whether allocated directly to them or to other members of the department).

VAT

  • Serves as the point of contact for VAT-related tax matters with other departments/sections
  • Ensures the correct accounting and monitoring of VAT-related balance sheet accounts.
  • Perform VAT returns according to the schedule.

Third-party accounts payable and MSF (intercompany)

  • Ensures the quality of all accounts payable processes
  • For third-party suppliers, supports the accounts payable clerk, performs checks, and is the point of contact for the invoice processing tool (for all MSF Switzerland users).

Accounts receivable, third parties and MSF (intercompany)

  • Ensures the quality of the entire accounting process for third-party clients, staff and MSF (intercompany):
    • Recording and editing of monthly intercompany and external customer invoices
    • Managing reminders to the entities concerned

Headquarters and expatriate payroll accounting

  • Ensures the quality of the entire accounting process for HQ and expatriate salaries:
    • Ensures the correct configuration of the ERP (rates and accounting settings).
    • Perform the necessary checks and reviews on data coming from HR
    • Regularly liaises with HR/accounting for the deduction of salary advances (client module).

IRP

  • Expert on standard costs. Mastery of principles and rules
  • Performs standard cost calculations according to the schedule and carries out related analyses (analytical reviews).

Annual closing and consolidation

  • Working closely with the Head of Global Accounting, performs the following tasks in the annual financial closing process:
    • Determining the schedule
    • Recording, closing and/or control/review:
      • AR, AP and immo modules, including interconnections
      • Current accounts and stocks
      • Active and passive transients
      • Social security debts and other payroll accounts
    • Preparation of the annual statutory accounts
    • Contact with auditors regarding logistical matters and ensures that documents are prepared by the team
  • Leads the entire consolidation process for the group. Enters data into SAP, records local adjustments, performs analytical reviews, and other related activities.

Internal control

  • Documentation and proactive and regular updating of the ICS processes concerning him/her
  • Perform the appropriate checks according to the established schedule
  • Annually reviews the ICS processes for all head office accounting. Uses a critical approach to identify efficiency gains and propose improvements.
  • Leader on process changes such as the digitalization of processes (proactive in identifying needs, and driving force in implementation and training within the department and throughout headquarters if concerned)

ERP Microsoft Dynamics 365

  • Serves as the point of contact for all questions related to the headquarters’ ERP system.
  • Responsible for maintaining and updating the analytical dimensions system in the ERP
  • Performs system tests and updates when applicable (key user). Liaises with consultants

Desired profile

Education

  • University degree in accounting and finance / Federal diploma as a specialist in accounting

Experience

  • Experience in an audit firm as a financial auditor is an asset
  • Management experience
  • At least 5 years of experience in general accounting, including the annual closing of accounts
  • Excellent knowledge and proven experience in cost accounting
  • Experience in non-profit organizations is an asset.

Technical Skills

  • Excellent knowledge of accounting
  • Excellent knowledge and extensive use of recognized accounting ERP systems including various modules (Microsoft Dynamics 365 an asset)
  • Knowledge of VAT administrative management
  • Knowledge of internal control (process definition, risk identification, implementation of controls, etc.)
  • Knowledge of Swiss GAAP RPC

Working conditions

  • Full-time position (100%) (40 hours/week)
  • Permanent contract
  • Workplace: Geneva
  • Ideal start date: 01.04.2026
  • Gross annual salary (at 100%): from CHF 102,180.- to CHF 116,484.- (salary based on equivalent experience and internal salary scale).
  • Paid vacation: 25 days per year, pro rata temporis, plus Swiss public holidays falling during the term of the contract.
  • Pension fund: contribution to the pension fund (2nd pillar-LPP) covered at a rate of 3/4 by MSF and 1/4 by the employee.
  • Relocation assistance in the event of a move from another country to Switzerland.
