SRD Center is seeking an experienced HEAT and Security Training Expert with strong First Aid/Trauma Care expertise to support the delivery of an upcoming Hostile Environment Awareness Training programme in Syria.
The expert will work as a co-trainer alongside the Lead HEAT Trainer and will have particular responsibility for hostile-environment first aid, practical exercises, participant observation, field simulations, and safety during practical training activities.
The assignment requires an experienced trainer who can combine technical first-aid knowledge with practical security awareness and effectively facilitate scenario-based learning for professionals operating in challenging environments.
Tasks
The expert will be responsible for:
- Support the Lead HEAT Trainer in the preparation and delivery of the overall training programme.
- Review and contribute to training materials, presentations, exercises, scenarios, and practical-training arrangements.
- Deliver training on first aid and emergency response relevant to hostile and challenging operating environments.
- Facilitate practical first-aid demonstrations and exercises within the limits of the trainer’s professional certification.
- Deliver or support sessions related to:
- personal safety and security;
- situational awareness;
- incident response;
- emergency first aid;
- initial casualty assessment;
- trauma awareness and immediate response;
- emergency communication and reporting;
- preparation for medical emergencies during field movements;
- participant welfare and stress awareness.
- Support the Lead Trainer in facilitating checkpoints, movement-security, incident-response, civil-unrest, and other practical scenarios included in the training programme.
- Help prepare and manage the dedicated field-training day.
- Support setup and safe use of practical training equipment.
- Act as an observer and evaluator during simulations and practical exercises.
- Monitor participant performance and document key observations.
- Provide technical feedback during post-exercise debriefing.
- Help ensure participant safety throughout practical exercises and simulations.
- Support risk assessment for field-training activities and identify appropriate control measures.
- Assist with pre- and post-training assessments and evaluation of participant learning.
- Support the Team Lead in ensuring the quality and consistency of training delivery.
- Contribute to participant evaluation, training documentation, and final training reporting.
- Coordinate closely with SRD Center’s training and logistics team.
Qualifications
Candidates should preferably meet the following requirements:
- Relevant university degree, professional diploma, or recognized professional qualification in emergency medicine, paramedicine, nursing, first aid, security management, humanitarian safety, emergency response, or a related field.
- Valid and recognized First Aid, Emergency First Aid, Trauma Care, or comparable certification.
- HEAT, hostile-environment, personal-security, or security-awareness training certification is highly desirable.
- Demonstrated experience delivering practical first-aid, emergency-response, HEAT, security, or related training.
- Previous experience supporting or delivering scenario-based practical exercises.
- Good understanding of the security and medical risks encountered by personnel working in hostile, remote, or challenging environments.
- Experience working in humanitarian, development, emergency-response, security, or field-based programmes is strongly preferred.
- Experience operating in conflict-affected, fragile, or high-risk environments is an advantage.
- Strong facilitation and demonstration skills, including the ability to explain practical procedures clearly to non-medical participants.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a multi-trainer team.
- Strong awareness of participant safety and duty-of-care requirements during practical training.
- Previous professional or training experience in the Middle East is an advantage.
- Good command of English is required.
- Ability to deliver or support training in Arabic and/or Kurdish is strongly preferred.
- Availability to participate in both classroom and field-based training activities.
