II. Organizational Context

Under the direct supervision of the Head of the Humanitarian Financing Unit (HFU) / Fund Manager within the OCHA Myanmar Country Office (CO), the Reports and Communications Officer (HRCO) supports the formulation and implementation of reporting, communications and advocacy work related to OCHA Myanmar-supported pooled funding mechanisms (Myanmar Humanitarian Fund (MHF) and Central Emergency Response Fund (CERF)) to increase the understanding and awareness of the impact of funded humanitarian activities in Myanmar with partners, the media and the public. The HRCO promotes a client-oriented approach in his/her work.

The role works in close collaboration with programme and finance colleagues of the OCHA Myanmar Humanitarian Financing Unit) and with PublicInformation Unit (PIU)colleagues form the OCHA Myanmar CO to ensure coherence and complementarity with OCHA Myanmar public information work.

III. Functions / Key Results Expected

Summary of Key Functions:

  • Monitor and consolidate information on the humanitarian situation and MHF/CERF work in support of this, and draft regular updates/ reports.
  • Support the formulation and implementation of internal and external communications and advocacy products related to the MHF and CERF.
  • Facilitation of knowledge building and knowledge sharing

Supports the Monitoring and consolidation of information on the humanitarian situationand MHF/CERF workin support of this, anddraft regular updates/ reports focusing on achievement of the following results:

  • Monitor the humanitarian situation in the country and gather and consolidate humanitarian information based on MHF and CERF programming from different stakeholders to inform HFU communications and reporting;
    • Draft regular reports/humanitarian updates on MHF / CERF work as required for internal and external use (Head of Office updates, MHF Advisory Board,Humanitarian Country Team, Partnership meetings) and ensure briefing on the country in appropriate information, coordination and other meetings organized by OCHA-Myanmar;
  • Support drafting of updates for senior management;
  • Participate in relevant meetings and workshops and ensure consolidation of information, data and analyses are provided.
  • Ensure note-taking at important MHF meetings, such as Advisory Board meetings, as well as workshops and other similar events.
  • Translate documents or articles and data collected which are of relevance to the work of OCHA HFU as needed;

Supports the formulation and implementation of internal and external communications and advocacy products focusing on achievement of the following results:

  • Support in developing strong links with Public Information Officers and other humanitarian organizations.
    • Prepare briefing materials, fact sheets, background papers and other custom publications and exhibition materials as required and ensure their dissemination to the concerned audiences and contribute to presentations for the purpose of advocacy and public information related to the HFU’s work as required;
    • Develop content for social media related to MHF and CERF work;
    • Support in preparation of donor reporting on CERF andMHF work e.g MHF annual report, CERF interim and final reporting.

Ensures facilitation of knowledge building and management focusing on achievement of the following results:

  • Identificationand synthesis of best practices and lessons learneddirectly linked to OCHA Myanmar HFU and activities.
    • Support of training and workshops for MHF and CERF partners on communications as appropriate

IV. Impact of Results

The key results have an impact on creation of effective communications and dissemination of information on UNOCHA as UN’s global development network. Accurate analysis and presentation of information enhances understanding of humanitarian issuesand concerns. The information provided facilitates decision making of the management.

VI. Recruitment Qualifications

Education: A bachelor degree in Communication, Journalism, International Studies, PublicRelations, Social Science and other related fields.

Experience:

2 years of relevant experience at the national level in providing communication packages to promote the activities of international development organization. Experience in the usage of computers andoffice software packages (MS Word, Excel, etc.).Experience in handling of web-based management systems.

Language Requirements: Fluency in the English and Myanmar language
