HEALTH – INNOVATE – TOGETHER: Since its creation in 2009, ALIMA has treated more than 13 million patients in 15 countries and currently operates in 12 African countries and Haiti. In 2022, we developed 62 humanitarian medical response projects to meet the needs of populations affected by conflict, epidemics, and extreme poverty. All of these projects are carried out in support of national health authorities through nearly 511 health facilities. We work in partnership, particularly with local NGOs, whenever possible to ensure that our patients benefit from expertise, whether at the national level or internationally. Furthermore, to improve the humanitarian response, we conduct operational and clinical research projects, particularly to combat malnutrition and viral hemorrhagic fevers.

OUR PROJECT THEMES: Malnutrition, Sexual and reproductive health including gender-based violence, Primary and secondary health, Pediatrics, Malaria, Epidemics (Hemorrhagic fevers, meningitis, Cholera, Measles, Dengue, COVID-19).

THE ALIMA TEAM: More than 2,000 people currently work for ALIMA. The field teams, working closest to patients, receive support from the coordination teams, generally based in the capital cities of the countries where they operate. These teams are supported by the four desk teams and the emergency and openings team based at the operational headquarters in Dakar, Senegal. The teams in Paris and New York actively work on fundraising and representing ALIMA. The rest of the ALIMA network includes individuals and partner teams working for other organizations such as the medical NGOs BEFEN, ALERTE Santé, SOS Médecins/KEOOGO, and AMCP; the research organizations PACCI and INSERM; the Universities of Bordeaux and Copenhagen; the NGO Solidarités International; and many others.

PROTECTION OF BENEFICIARIES AND COMMUNITY MEMBERS

Level 3: As part of their duties, the incumbent will be required to visit programs and be in contact with children and/or vulnerable adults. Therefore, a criminal record check or a certificate of good conduct will be required. In situations where it is impossible to provide a criminal record check or a certificate of good conduct, a sworn statement will be requested.

FUNCTIONAL AND HIERARCHICAL LINKS

The Senior Institutional Funding Officer reports to the Head of Donor Services. They will work in close coordination with the Donor Desk Officers, the desks, and the development teams as needed.

MAIN MISSIONS AND ACTIVITIES

Job objective

The Institutional Funding Specialist contributes to strengthening internal expertise on institutional funding. They support headquarters and field teams in managing and developing funding opportunities by providing advice, tools, and guidance. They also help streamline relationships with donors and improve the quality of practices within the ALIMA network.

Main responsibilities

Strategic support for donor development

  • Contribute to the management of the donors’ action plan
  • To handle certain specific cases as delegated by the Head of Department

Coordination of multi-country financing

  • Leading internal coordination for multi-country and cross-cutting funding opportunities
  • Ensure the monitoring of associated contracts (monitoring implementation, reporting, compliance)
  • Lead the drafting of proposals and reports for multi-country and cross-cutting projects

Quality and compliance of financing

  • Supporting desks and missions on compliance issues, as well as on the analysis and interpretation of landlord rules
  • Contribute to the harmonization of practices and the continuous improvement of grant management

Structuring, tools, methods & capacity building

  • To lead the creation and updating of tools, guides and resources aimed at strengthening the quality of funding management
  • Design and deliver training sessions (workshops, webinars) for headquarters and field teams on topics related to donors

Operational support for teams

  • Provide direct and ad hoc operational support to desks and/or missions, particularly in situations of increased need or emergency.

Experiences & Skills

  • Significant experience (5 to 8 years) in managing grants and institutional funding, preferably at headquarters and regional office level.
  • Excellent knowledge of donor requirements (compliance, reporting, contracting)
  • Strong writing skills (proposals and reports)
  • Ability to coordinate complex projects, particularly multi-country projects.
  • Ability to train and build capacity
  • Rigour, autonomy and adaptability
  • Ability to proactively and pragmatically identify and resolve problems
  • Ability to analyze and synthesize complex information for a variety of audiences
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, in French and English.
  • Interpersonal and diplomatic skills: ability to work with diverse profiles, sometimes with different perspectives, and to build consensus

Salary

  • Duration and type of contract: Permanent contract under Senegalese law
  • Start date: 01/07/2026
  • Salary: According to the ALIMA salary scale.

  • Five weeks of paid leave per year and a system of compensatory time off for business trips
  • School fees are covered for any dependent children, up to ALIMA’s limits.
