. ORGANIZATIONAL CONTEXT AND SCOPE

Under the overall supervision of the Director, Coordinating Office for the Mediterranean and Chief of Mission in Italy and Malta and Representative to the Holy See, and the direct supervision of the Integration Specialist and Coordinator, the intern will assist with the daily activities of the Integration and Technical Cooperation Unit, in accordance with the IOM policy and procedures.

  1. RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES

Learning Objectives

  • Support the organization and implementation of integration projects and activities, including assisting with event planning, logistics, and coordination with stakeholders.
  • Conduct research and analysis on best practices, policies, and trends related to migrant socio-economic integration in Italy and the Mediterranean region.
  • Assist in the preparation of reports, presentations, and informational materials on integration initiatives, ensuring accuracy and clarity of content.
  • Contribute to the monitoring and evaluation of ongoing integration programmes by collecting data, drafting summaries, and preparing feedback for improvement.
  • Respond to inquiries and maintain contact lists related to the projects activities.
  • Support the development and translation of outreach materials aimed at migrants, stakeholders, and the general public, ensuring accessibility and cultural sensitivity.
  • Assist in organizing workshops, training sessions, and community engagement events focused on enhancing migrants’ access to employment, education, and social services.
  • Participate in meetings and provide administrative support, including drafting minutes, preparing agendas, and following up on action points.
  • Help maintain project documentation and databases, ensuring that records are up to date and confidentiality is preserved.
  • Contribute to the identification of funding opportunities and the drafting of project proposals related to migrant integration and technical cooperation.
  1. REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

Education

  • Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum bachelor’s level or equivalent);

or

  • Be enrolled in a graduate school program (second university degree or equivalent, or higher);

or

  • Have graduated with one of the above university degrees and, if selected, must commence the internship within one year of graduation.

Experience

  • Assisted in basic administrative tasks such as document filing, data entry, and email correspondence.
  • Participated in research, reporting and data collection activities related to project implementation.
  • Previous experience in the migration field, with a specific focus on integration and inclusion, would be considered an advantage.

Skills

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Problem-solving attitude and willingness to learn quickly.
  • Attention to detail and ability to work accurately with data and documents.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).

Languages

  • Fluency in Italian and English are required (oral and written).
  • Working knowledge of French and Arabic is desirable.

IOM’s official languages are English, French and Spanish.

Proficiency of language(s) required will be specifically evaluated during the selection process, which may include written and/or oral assessments.
