Doctors Without Borders Switzerland is recruiting an Internal Controller (M/F/X) who will contribute to risk management and the control of operational and financial processes to ensure that MSF’s resources (funds, assets, human resources, information, reputation and time) are used optimally, while avoiding any fraud and respecting standards (policies, procedures…), as well as laws, regulations and contracts.

Job description (but not limited to):
The Internal Auditor actively promotes a culture of integrity, ethics, and risk management (identification, processing, documentation/training, monitoring, continuous improvement, and communication). They raise awareness, encourage, and support coordinators to communicate effectively with all staff, through various channels, about MSF’s mission, values, major risks, and the importance of standard procedures and their application to mitigate risks. They also ensure the need for regular monitoring of the proper implementation of these procedures to guarantee business continuity, the protection of people (Duty of Care), resources, and MSF’s reputation.
The position involves frequent travel to projects (approximately two-thirds of the time) to provide support, raise awareness, and conduct on-site inspections. These visits allow for close collaboration with local teams to assess operational compliance, identify risks specific to each project’s context, and ensure rigorous implementation of MSF procedures, while taking into account the unique risks of each context.
His main responsibilities are as follows:
- In coordination with and during site visits, train teams from different departments, provide them with tools and methods, and support them in:
- Identify and analyze the risks specific to the mission context.
- Draft/update specific key resource management procedures tailored to the context and associated risks, and based on standard procedures.
- Establish/update specific control lists (who controls what, how, how often) based on mission-specific procedures or non-compliance points identified during audits, for example.
- Regularly implement standard (core) and specific controls, ensuring that controls are documented and archived.
- Managing resource incidents and potential insurance claims,
- Identify, prioritize and implement improvement actions resulting from risk analyses, control results, and incident analyses.
- Being the point of contact for the mission regarding the fight against fraud and corruption: he briefs new staff on the risks of fraud and corruption, in particular managers on their role (exemplary conduct and tone given by management) and the means to prevent, identify, alert and report cases of corruption.
- Monitor with the teams the regular review of risks and specific field procedures, as well as the proper adherence to the defined insurance strategy for the mission and according to OCG standards.
- Conduct regular and direct spot checks on key processes and make recommendations.
- Contribute to detecting and reporting cases of fraud to headquarters; facilitate the processing of cases handled by the mission; play an advisory role in monitoring and possible disciplinary sanctions, propose and implement the monitoring of corrective measures with the supervisors concerned.
- To support and facilitate the smooth running of audits, investigations carried out by headquarters, and other controls by local authorities.
- Continuously monitor the implementation of improvement actions and other recommendations identified locally or addressed following visits to headquarters (in particular internal/external audits).
- Facilitate and encourage proactive consultation with headquarters contacts, particularly regarding abuse, fraud or data protection, and with legal contacts for risks associated with the legal framework in the DRC, in order to ensure alignment at the intersection.
- Regularly report the results of the various monitoring activities to the Head of Mission on the progress and level of control of the mission’s key risks. Do the same with the Internal Control Manager at headquarters (ICRM) for advice, support, and continuous improvement.
Required profile:
- Master’s degree in auditing, management, international relations, finance, or equivalent discipline
- Minimum 2 years of professional experience in a similar position, preferably within an international NGO
- Prior experience in developing countries is preferred.
- Prior experience with MSF is a significant advantage.

Employment Conditions:
- Field-based contract, fixed term of one year, renewable.
- Remuneration (salary allowance based on previous professional experience and country of residence)
- Duration of travel on projects: from 4 weeks to 3 months (some flexibility is required if needed).
- Travel expenses and visa requirements will be covered by MSF.
- MSF will provide a daily allowance and accommodation during the mission, but not between missions.
