Italy – Operations Manager for West Africa At COOPI – International Cooperation

COOPI is seeking an Operations Manager for West Africa for its Milan office.

Role Description

This position is part of COOPI’s International Activities and operates within a team that includes the Area Manager and the Regional Administrator. The position is based at the Milan Headquarters and collaborates with the various office areas to support International Activities. The position reports directly to Management and collaborates functionally with the Area Manager. Target countries: Burkina Faso, Mali, Mauritania, Niger, and Nigeria.

Responsibility

The figure is dedicated to facilitating work processes and supporting country coordination and head office departments in the correct application of operating procedures.

  • Assists and supports the Area Manager in monitoring ongoing activities, ensuring their proper execution with respect to the defined contents, including their economic, financial and compliance terms;
  • Ensures the application and compliance with the procedures of the Foundation, Institutional Donors and Countries;
  • Oversees processes for the correct use of strategic planning, programming, and management tools;
  • Supports country coordinators and relevant headquarters offices in finalizing new project proposals;
  • Ensures the updating and implementation of country regulations , including safety plans for expatriate and local staff;
  • Supports mission heads in administrative procedures with local authorities and counterparts to ensure the best management of ongoing activities;
  • Facilitates the exchange of documents and best practices with the aim of increasing the level of learning and knowledge on existing experiences in one’s area of ​​expertise;
  • Receives HR needs planning from the Area Manager and manages the selection, contracting and onboarding of expatriate staff , supervising the contractual TDRs, salary proposals, benefits policy and training and evaluation plans;
  • Supports the Mission Heads in managing security risks , in particular intervenes promptly and operationally in emergencies together with the Area Manager and the Security Advisor, in agreement with the Management;
  • It promotes the collection and dissemination of news on activities, ensuring that this information is passed on to the relevant fundraising and institutional communications offices;
  • Participates directly in meetings and events on topics of interest to the area of ​​expertise, in consultation with Management.

Profile wanted

ESSENTIALS

  • University / Post-graduate education, preferably in a field related to International Cooperation;
  • At least 3 years of overall previous work experience in complex structures;
  • Previous experience abroad in the field of International Cooperation, in management activities (programs, projects, administration and finance) and similar roles ;
  • Excellent knowledge of French and Italian (C1) ;
  • Excellent ability to prioritize and organize work while meeting pressing deadlines;
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with various internal and external interlocutors;
  • Interest in growing in the role and carrying out missions abroad;
  • Flexibility, listening and confidentiality;
  • Stress resistance;
  • Interest and aptitude for working in an international environment;
  • Excellent knowledge of the Office package;
  • Respect for the values ​​of the Organization;

DESIRABLE

  • Previous experience with COOPI in one of the missions abroad
  • Knowledge of the English language (B2-C1)
