CAPE VERDE: Data collectors and Field Staff At Aries Consult

OVERVIEW

ARIES CONSULT is seeking FIELD RESEARCHERS for upcoming projects in Cape Verde to collect quantitative and qualitative data in the field. She/he has direct contact with the beneficiaries of the projects we evaluate and have a great bearing on the quality of data collected and ultimately on the quality of data output.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES

She / he will be closely supervised by and report to the Data Collection Supervisor. The core task will be to to conduct household visits of potential beneficiaries to gather data on the project.

1. Conduct data collection

  • Conduct data collection using the provided data collection surveys through interviews and direct observation.
  • Interview the identified participants of the project within the project area to ensure the data and info that have been recorded within registered forms.
  • Document all the findings in the provided data collection tools.
  • Compiling and sorting the filled data collection tools as directed by the supervisor.
  • Ensure collected data is accurately recorded.
  • Capture data using digital data entry technology provided.
  • Ensure anonymity of respondents and develop relationship of trust and safe space during data collection exercise with respondents.
  • Identify and report any challenges faced that could affect the quality of the data.
  • Report daily issues and challenges to the project officers.
  • Any other duties assigned by the project manager.

2. Reporting

  • Present the data to the supervisor at the end of each day.
  • Report to the supervisor before and after day’s work for further direction.
  • Submits the daily site visit report to the field supervisor.

3. Post-data collection

  • Ensure that all questionnaires and equipment are accounted for.
  • Turn over all literature and materials used in the survey to the supervisor.
  • Follow confidentiality and security procedures to ensure respondent privacy is protected.

QUALIFICATIONS & MAIN SKILLS

Requirements: Technical & Functional skills skills

  • Attention to detail.
  • Perfect command of English and / or French
  • Ability to work independently and confidence to undergo household visits.
  • Computer literacy to be able to work on smart phone-based data collection applications.
  • Good facilitation skills.
  • Good communication skills and experience in participatory methodology.
  • Innovative, motivated and able to work with minimal supervision.
  • Willing to accomplish each day’s work with the supervisor by the end of each day.

Qualifications

  • Minimum completed secondary education ( university degree is an asset )
  • Strong knowledge of interview techniques
  • Previous experience in collecting quantitative and qualitative data
  • Previous experience with Aries Consult ltd / other NGOs as field staff is an asset
  • Demonstrated experience in conducting surveys (experience with KoboCollect is an asset)
  • Good knowledge of local languages
  • Exceptional reading and writing/note taking skills
  • Familiarity, willingness and ability to work in rural areas
  • Ability of travel within the country sub-district

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES

The(a) candidate(a) will be closely supervised(a) by the Data Collection Supervisor and will respond to him. The main task will be to carry out home visits to potential beneficiaries to collect data on the project.

1. Perform data collection

  • Conduct data collection using data collection surveys provided through interviews and direct observation.
  • Interview identified project participants within the project area to ensure that the data and information that has been recorded in the registered forms.
  • Document all findings in the data collection instruments provided.
  • Compile and classify completed data collection instruments according to supervisor instructions.
  • Ensure that the data collected is accurately recorded.
  • Capture data using the digital data entry technology provided.
  • Ensure the anonymity of respondents and develop a relationship of trust and a safe space during the data collection exercise with respondents.
  • Identify and communicate any challenges faced that may affect data quality.
  • Communicate daily problems and challenges to project managers.
  • Any other tasks assigned by the project manager.

2. Reports

  • Inform the supervisor before and after the work day for further guidance.
  • Present the daily site visit report to the field supervisor.

3. Post-collection of data

  • Ensure that all questionnaires and equipment are accounted for.
  • Deliver to the supervisor all literature and materials used in the survey.
  • Follow confidentiality and security procedures to ensure the protection of the privacy of respondents.

CORE QUALIFICATIONS AND COMPETENCIES

Requirements: Technical and functional skills

  • Perfect command of English and/or French
  • Ability to work autonomously and confidently to make home visits.
  • Computer skills to be able to work with data collection applications based on smart phones.
  • Good facilitation skills.
  • Good communication skills and experience in participatory methodology.
  • Innovative, motivated and able to work with a minimum of supervision.
  • Availability to fulfill the work of each day with the supervisor until the end of each day.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of complete secondary education (university degree is an advantage)
  • Solid knowledge of interview techniques
  • Previous experience in collecting quantitative and qualitative data
  • Previous experience with Aries Consult ltd/other NGOs as field staff is an advantage
  • Proven experience in conducting surveys (experience with KoboCollect is an advantage)
  • Good knowledge of local languages
  • Exceptional reading and writing skills /note taking
  • Familiarity, willingness and ability to work in rural areas
  • Travel capacity in the subdistricts of the country
