Communications manager | Costa Rica | 2021 At Chemonics

Chemonics seeks a communications manager for the anticipated USAID Bureau of humanitarian Assistance (BHA) funded LAC Regional Disaster Assistance Program (RDAP). The communications manager will work as a full-time staff member based in San Jose Costa Rica and work closely with the knowledge management specialist to develop, distribute, and drive external communications products that reinforce training, capacity building, learning, and emergency response efforts with national and regional emergency and disaster management stakeholders across Latin America and the Caribbean. Individuals with experience working with BHA on disaster management and response programming are highly encouraged to apply. This program is in the proposal stage and the position is contingent upon the future solicitation and USAID’s award decision for the new program. This position will require regular travel to other countries in the region, depending on project needs. Principal Duties and Responsibilities (Essential Functions):

  • Lead efforts to establish, maintain, and promote quality standards for all written materials from the RDAP project, including writing, editing, style, format, design, and production
  • Track ongoing technical training and disaster risk management, preparedness, response, and capacity building efforts to anticipate project and client communication priorities, opportunities, and needs
  • Conceive, recommend, and execute communications strategies, deliverables, resources, and tactics for timely and effective achievement of client objectives
  • Institutionalize high-quality project reporting, including defining and developing best practices
  • Draft, vet, and complete deliverables and reports of the highest quality. Coach and train country staff in communication skills, collaborating with them to highlight project impact and best practices through stories, events, and outreach
  • Apply expertise in emergency response and disaster assistance to contribute substantively to communication goals and objectives
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as required

Qualifications:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty and responsibility satisfactorily. The qualifications listed below are representative of the required knowledge, skills, and/or abilities needed to perform the principal duties.

  • Bachelor’s degree and minimum 7 years of technically relevant work experience required; Master’s degree preferred
  • Knowledge of USAID Bureau of humanitarian Assistance (BHA) funded Regional Disaster Assistance Program (RDAP)and its operations preferred
  • Ability to solve technical, managerial or operational problems and evaluate options based on relevant information, resources, well-rounded experience, and knowledge
  • Native Spanish, Level 5 English preferred
  • Outstanding ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing, and lead presentations, training courses, and effective meetings
  • Strong knowledge of MS Office applications
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
  • Strong organizational and work prioritization skills and attention to detail
  • Demonstrated leadership, versatility, and integrity
  • Costa Rican nationals preferred
