FilmAid Kenya (FAK) is a development and humanitarian organization that harnesses the power and influence of film, media, and the arts to respond to displaced communities in need and promote social change. Using a participatory community-based approach, FilmAid provides displaced people with actionable information about their rights, safety, health, and future. Using compelling video, radio, print, SMS, and digital media campaigns, FilmAid reaches over 400,000 people every year.
Project background / Description and scope of work
FAK is seeking talented, creative, high-energy filmmakers strong in Editing and Post Production Management to help edit and manage the post-production of unique video content including short films and docudramas. The work additionally involves working directly with refugee and host community students and alumni from the FAK Media Hub Multimedia Training Program to ensure a continuation in capacity building and on-job training, and ensure context-appropriate video productions are realized. Using media for development principles, FAK’s approach ensures unique participatory methods that put the community at the center of messaging, planning, and execution of media production projects. FAK uses these media for community-based screenings and workshops to build local communities’ knowledge, self-awareness, and efficacy and use the information to make positive behavior modifications, build community leadership, and collective participation & respond to social issues that they face.**
Deliverables of the project
• 5 Short films (7-10 minutes)
Performance Period and Station
This is a performance-based assignment and the final approved deliverables are expected on or before June 30, 2022. Precise timelines will be developed after discussion with the selected consultant. Sufficient time will be allocated to ensure content is relevant and brings about the desired results. The Consultant will be based in the field in Dadaab.
Role Summary
The Consultant will be responsible for;
● Editing of the 5 Short Films in collaboration with the FilmAid Media Hub Multimedia Training Program Alumni. The Consultant will be responsible for providing their own edit suite/edit station.
● Creation of teasers, trailers, cutdowns, and other promotional vignettes of the 5 films for use on social media and other digital distribution channels.
● Project manage films’ edits from start to distribution on schedule and on budget; be able to pinpoint any film at any time for delivery timing and evaluation.
● Ensure the films are completed efficiently and on schedule; determine and manage priorities.
● Provide quality-controlled elements (audio, color, subtitling, copy, design) during the project, and provide feedback on edit resources and production to Director / Producer.
● Coordinate with the Director by providing post schedules and estimated resources needs to the Producer
● Work with the Audio Producer to obtain dubbed audio translations of the 5 films in various languages as per the Creative Brief
Desired Skills and Qualifications
● Knowledge and demonstrated experience in Adobe Creative Suite (Premiere, Adobe Audition, Media Encoder, After Effects)
● Post-production coordination or supervision experience
● Deep knowledge of post-production processes, workflows, and best practices, including scheduling and final deliverables
● Top-notch organizational skills, ability to take direction and give orders as needed
● Work independently and with teams, able to decipher problems and create solutions
● Self-driven and able to complete tasks with minimal guidance if necessary
● Adept at determining priorities and able to hit deadlines; ability to adapt quickly to changing priorities in a deadline-driven environment
● Productivity-focused and proven to be a quick problem solver, with the ability to overcome technical challenges as necessary
