Food and Beverage Production Trainer At Somali Lifeline Organization

Duration: 6 months (Temporary position)

Organization Overview:

SOLO is a humanitarian organization committed to providing education and skills training to empower individuals in refugee communities. We are currently seeking a Food and Beverage Production Services Trainer to lead a training program in IFO, Dadaab. This program aims to equip members of the community with the necessary skills and knowledge in food and beverage production to enhance their employability and entrepreneurship opportunities.

Responsibilities:

Curriculum Development:

  • Develop a comprehensive training curriculum in food and beverage production services, aligning with the requirements of the National Industrial Training Authority (NITA).
  • Design lesson plans, practical exercises, and assessments to facilitate effective learning outcomes for trainees.

Training Delivery:

  • Conduct engaging and interactive training sessions for community members enrolled in the program, focusing on practical skills, industry best practices, and safety standards.
  • Provide hands-on demonstrations and guidance to trainees in various aspects of food preparation, cooking techniques, menu planning, and hygiene practices.

Skill Building:

  • Mentor and coach trainees to develop their culinary skills, creativity, and attention to detail in food production and presentation.
  • Facilitate discussions on topics such as kitchen management, inventory control, and customer service to prepare trainees for employment opportunities in the food service industry.

Monitoring and Evaluation:

  • Regularly assess the progress and performance of trainees through observation, practical assessments, and knowledge tests.
  • Maintain accurate records of attendance, assessments, and feedback to track individual and group progress over the training period.

NITA Exam Preparation:

  • Prepare trainees for the NITA trade test in food and beverage production, ensuring they are familiar with the examination format, content, and expectations.
  • Conduct review sessions, mock tests, and targeted skill drills to enhance trainees’ readiness for successful completion of the NITA exam.

Community Engagement:

  • Foster a supportive and inclusive learning environment that encourages active participation, collaboration, and peer learning among trainees.
  • Work closely with community leaders, stakeholders, and local partners to promote the training program and facilitate community involvement and support.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent certification in culinary arts, food service management, or a related field.
  • Proven experience working as a chef, culinary instructor, or food service trainer, preferably in diverse cultural settings or refugee contexts.
  • Strong knowledge of food and beverage production principles, techniques, and industry standards, with a focus on hygiene, sanitation, and safety protocols.
  • Experience in curriculum development, training delivery, and assessment methodologies, including hands-on practical training and theoretical instruction.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage and motivate diverse groups of learners and foster a positive learning environment.
  • Familiarity with the requirements and examination processes of the National Industrial Training Authority (NITA) or similar vocational training and certification bodies is preferred.
  • Sensitivity to the cultural, social, and economic context of refugee communities and a commitment to promoting empowerment and self-reliance through skills training.
  • Fluency in Somali will be an added advantage
