Food and Beverage Services Trainer At Somali Lifeline Organization

Duration: 6 months (Temporary position)

Organization Overview:

SOLO is committed to providing education and skills training to empower individuals in refugee communities. We are currently seeking a Food and Beverage Services Trainer to lead a training program in Ifo, Dadaab. This program aims to equip community members with the necessary skills and knowledge in food and beverage services to enhance their employability and entrepreneurial opportunities.

Responsibilities:

  1. Curriculum Development:
    • Develop a comprehensive training curriculum in food and beverage services, tailored to the needs and context of the community in Ifo, Dadaab.
    • Design engaging lesson plans, interactive activities, and practical exercises to facilitate effective learning outcomes for trainees.
  2. Training Delivery:
    • Conduct interactive and participatory training sessions for community members enrolled in the program, focusing on customer service, food handling, and beverage preparation.
    • Provide practical demonstrations and hands-on training in areas such as table service, barista skills, and basic food preparation techniques.
  3. Skill Building:
    • Coach and mentor trainees to develop essential skills in customer interaction, food presentation, and hospitality etiquette to excel in various food service settings.
    • Facilitate discussions and role-playing exercises to enhance trainees’ communication, problem-solving, and teamwork abilities in a service-oriented environment.
  4. Monitoring and Evaluation:
    • Regularly assess the progress and performance of trainees through observation, role-playing exercises, and practical assessments.
    • Maintain accurate records of trainee attendance, performance, and feedback to track individual and group progress throughout the training program.
  5. NITA Exam Preparation:
    • Prepare trainees for the NITA trade test in food and beverage services, ensuring they are familiar with the examination format, content, and requirements.
    • Conduct review sessions, mock tests, and skill drills to enhance trainees’ readiness and confidence for successful completion of the NITA exam.
  6. Community Engagement:
    • Foster a supportive and inclusive learning environment that promotes active participation, collaboration, and mutual support among trainees.
    • Collaborate with community leaders, stakeholders, and local partners to promote the training program, encourage community participation, and ensure its relevance and sustainability.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent certification in hospitality management, food service, or a related field.
  • Previous experience working as a food and beverage trainer, hospitality instructor, or service industry professional, preferably in multicultural or refugee settings.
  • Strong knowledge of food service principles, customer service standards, and beverage preparation techniques, with a focus on hygiene, safety, and quality.
  • Demonstrated experience in curriculum development, training delivery, and assessment methodologies, including interactive and participatory learning techniques.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and facilitation skills, with the ability to engage and motivate diverse groups of learners and foster a positive learning environment.
  • Fluency in Somali language is an added advantage.
  • Familiarity with the requirements and examination processes of the National Industrial Training Authority (NITA) or similar vocational training and certification bodies is desirable.
  • Sensitivity to the cultural, social, and economic context of refugee communities and a commitment to promoting empowerment and self-reliance through skills training and capacity-building initiatives.
