The Team

The Fundraising Development team drives and supports Mercy Corps’ strategies for restricted funding, unrestricted funds and brand profile raising. Our Fundraising Operations (FundOps) team is the “Engine” of the Fundraising Development team, managing internal processes and procedures to ensure the smooth running of our fundraising activities. The FundOps team does not fundraise directly, rather we process income from donors and work with Finance and reconcile our voluntary income on a daily and monthly basis.

The Position

Reporting to the Senior Manager, the FundOps Officer will support the wider Fundraising Development team by ensuring efficient and effective processing of gifts, managing inter-team data sharing and interfaces, providing accurate segmented data selections, campaign analysis and a variety of income reports.

We are looking for an ambitious individual with experience of financial processing, reporting and analysis, preferably in a charity environment, who enjoys working with data and processes, for whom attention to detail is a natural skill and problem solving a satisfying challenge.

Essential Responsibilities

DATABASE MANAGEMENT

  • Monitor data input
  • Manage the inputting of data into database from internal and external sources, to ensure accuracy
  • Run monthly database diagnostics, to ensure data is accurate
  • Assist with Database training for Fundraising Development Team
  • Provide ongoing support to Raiser’s Edge users to ensure they are making best use of the database

GIFT PROCESSING

  • Assist the FundOps Assistant with gift processing at peak times
  • Assist the FundOps Assistant with the acknowledgement and thanking of all gifts at peak times
  • Assist with managing and processing gifts paid into the bank

FINANCE AND REPORTING

  • Assist with colleagues and the Finance team to reconcile monthly income
  • Assist with the management and processing of Gift Aid claims
  • Develop and lead on monthly financial reporting and KPIs for the Fundraising Development Team
  • Support team members to run reports and set up dashboards in Raiser’s Edge
  • Manage imports and exports of gift data, ensuring accuracy at all times
  • Deliver monthly insights and analytics to the management team for data-driven decision making
  • Support with the recording of invoices for the Fundraising Development Team

SELECTIONS AND ANALYSIS

  • Produce targeted selection briefs for mailing, emails
  • Produce accurate, segmented data selections and segmented email lists on ActionKit (email marketing system)
  • Assist with the set-up of campaign analysis reports for the Fundraising Development Team

OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Feed into and assist with the implementation of supporter journeys for the Fundraising Development Team
  • Remain vigilant of Data Protection Regulations, Fundraising Regulator Legislation and GDPR legislation and ensure Development teams compliance

Reports Directly To: Senior Manager, Fundraising Operations

Works Directly With: All members of Fundraising Operations Team, wider Fundraising Development Team in Europe, Corporate Finance Team, U.S. based counterparts.

Accountability to Participants and Stakeholders

Mercy Corps team members are expected to support all efforts toward accountability, specifically to our program participants, community partners, other stakeholders, and to international standards guiding international relief and development work. We are committed to actively engaging communities as equal partners in the design, monitoring and evaluation of our field projects.

Minimum Qualifications & Transferable Skills

  • Minimum 3 years’ experience.
  • Demonstrable experience of working with a fundraising or similar CRM/relational database (with substantial volume of records and variety of interactions) for marketing, engagement and/or fundraising to input data, extract reports and conduct analysis. Experience of Raiser’s Edge would be an advantage but is not essential.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of MS Excel or other data manipulation packages
  • Experience of financial reconciliation methods and processes
  • An awareness of reporting on performance measures and the ability to interpret results and use this data to conduct direct marketing tests and learn from the outcomes
  • Practical knowledge and understanding of the GDPR and Data Protection legislation
  • Experience of processing gifts and Gift Aid (desirable)
  • Experience with selection briefs and running data segmentation and data selection for mailing, telemarketing and e-mail campaigns (desirable)
  • Experience of cleaning, manipulating and importing data is essential, with at least 2 years minimum experience

Able to cope with changing priorities, often at short notice, and work well under pressure whilst meeting deadlines. A high attention to detail is essential. A strong team worker who is able to build and maintain effective internal and external relationships, with a confident, ‘can-do’, flexible approach. Skilled in anticipating and solving problems and communicating issues, involving others as needed, with proactive and solutions-based attitude. An exposure to and interest in international development issues is desirable, along with an empathy for Mercy Corps’ mission.

Living Conditions / Environmental Conditions

The position can be based in Edinburgh or London and may require some minimal travel, or there is an opportunity for this to be a remote position based in the UK.
