The position is to be filled as soon as possible, with an initial contract duration of one year. There are very good prospects for an extension. Employment location will be Gaziantep, Turkey.
As Head of Project – Multisectoral Cross Border Intervention you will be managing a project funded by the German Foreign Office with both partner- and self-implemented activities within multiple sectors (food security, nutrition, protection, shelter, Non Food Items, WASH) in North West Syria. You will be responsible for ensuring quality and a coordinated, rapid humanitarian response with an emphasis on timeliness and best use of resources. Also you will lead and build Welthungerhilfe (WHH) staff and partner’s capacity on programme implementation. In your role you will need to coordinate closely with colleagues from various units, represent Welthungerhilfe at various fora, and liaise with diverse stakeholders including clusters, government partners, and international and local NGOs working in the response.
Your responsibilities
- Lead and coordinate the delivery of WHH cross border partner and self-implementation interventions in Food Security, WASH, Shelter NFI, Nutrition, Protection and Early Recovery sectors, ensuring an integrated sector approach
- Ensure compliance with WHH policy, procedures and practices throughout the implementation of activities, including adherence to Do No Harm principles
- Closely monitor and manage the project’s budget spending
- Participate in recruitment and mentoring of team members
- Lead the compiling and writing of periodic project reports as required
- Assist the Programme Department in further project development including identification of new project ideas
- Conduct regular monitoring visits to the field and ensure adequate monitoring by project staff
- Monitor the humanitarian context and manage emergency responses as appropriate
- Maintain close contact with the Access Manager regarding security developments and necessary adjustments to activities
- Coordinate with the programme team to ensure WHH is adequately represented at relevant national level forums (e.g. clusters, working groups, and other coordination meetings) and provide feedback, analysis and recommendations to senior management
Your profile
- A university or polytechnic degree in emergency aid, project management, or a related field
- At least 5 years of programme management experience in humanitarian/emergency contexts, preferably managing large, multi-sectoral and cross-border projects in the Syria Response
- Experience with cash programming would be an advantage
- Experience with German donor regulations would be an advantage (German Federal Foreign Office)
- Excellent management, coordination, as well as communication skills and intercultural sensibility
- Willingness to conduct field monitoring visits from Turkey into Northern Aleppo
- Fluency in English is required, a very good command of both written and spoken Arabic would be an asset
