The Program

The Fiji Program Support Facility (the Facility) was established in 2017 to support and implement Australia’s aid programs such as health, education, emergency preparedness and response and governance in Fiji. The Facility also supports the Australia Awards in Fiji and Tuvalu. The Facility integrates cross-cutting themes, including gender equality, disability and social inclusion, climate change and Disaster Risk Reduction, across sectoral programs. In particular, the Facility seeks to strengthen program outcomes by better addressing the needs of targeted beneficiaries including those who are often marginalised.

The Government of Fiji is committed to gender equality and the empowerment of all women and girls. Fiji’s 2013 Constitution adopts an intersectional approach to the protection of the rights of all Fijians to freedom from discrimination and its policies and legislation – notably the 2014 National Gender Policy and the National Development Plan (NDP) – reinforce its commitment to “Leave No One Behind” (LNOB). Fiji is a signatory to several regional and international gender equality commitments/initiatives and is pursuing implementation of the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW) as well as achievement of the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), in particular SDG 5 (gender equality).

The Advisor will take a whole-of-government and inclusive approach to strengthening gender-transformative systems and capacity development.
