COOPI is looking for a MEAL Assistant in Niger

COOPI has been present in Niger since 2012 with a coordination office in Niamey, and field bases in Diffa, Agadez, Tahoua, Maradi and Tillabéry. Currently, COOPI works in the Diffa region in the sectors of protection, mental health, and education in emergency situations, in Niamey and Agadez in mixed migration with the management of transit huts and psychosocial support refugees and migrants, in the regions of Tillabéry and Tahoua with interventions in the field of nutrition/health and emergency education, in Maradi with a protection project. The main donors are ECHO, the European Union, Swiss Cooperation, FHRAOC, Italian Cooperation (AICS), USAID/BHA, SRF and United Nations agencies (UNHCR, UNICEF, IOM) .

Job objective

As a member of the Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability and Learning (MEAL) team, the MEAL Assistant will support the MEAL Coordinator in implementing all MEAL processes and activities necessary to improve the quality of the program during project implementation . This includes supporting the design of the project monitoring and evaluation framework and accountability and learning plans, supporting evaluation studies, implementing project monitoring tools and monitor project activities and results. The position also supports effective accountability systems, including complaint management systems, and will contribute to project and organizational learning processes.

Responsibilities

Under the supervision of the MEAL coordinator, the assistant will support the MEAL team in:

  • Support project managers in directly collecting relevant data , as outlined in project MEAL plans, to measure progress against indicators, expand organizational contextual knowledge, build positive relationships and trust with those involved and promote programmatic learning
  • Monitor implementation of project activities and progress against output indicators as reported by project teams
  • Ensure the adoption of the monitoring tool and other MEAL COOPI tools at the project level
  • Follow up with project managers on a monthly basis to obtain updates required by COOPI’s internal reporting system (MEALLY)
  • Ensure quality data collection in the field
  • Support the implementation of project evaluation missions (support the preparation/revision of ToRs, inception reports and final reports) and support the organization of internal review exercises with project staff
  • Contribute to the translation of necessary documents such as data collection tools and databases
  • Contribute to the analysis of quantitative and qualitative data
  • Contribute to the integration of accountability into all activities
  • Assume any other responsibilities assigned by the MEAL manager

Candidate profile

Essential

  • Bachelor’s degree in social studies or development-related fields
  • 2-3 years of work experience in the field of monitoring and evaluation
  • Experience in data management and ensuring quality of data collection
  • Highly developed interpersonal and communication skills
  • Comfortable with high levels of complexity and able to make decisions independently in a fluid context
  • Mastery of the French language
  • Good knowledge of Excel is essential

Desirable

  • Previous experience with COOPI and knowledge of its procedures
  • Work experiences in Niger or in similar French-speaking contexts
