Programme Policy Officer (Social Protection) NOB at World Food Programme

A. WFP’s technical assistance provision to the national social protection actors

  1. Contribute to Country Office’s technical advisory role for the government on a wide range of social protection programme and policy issues to support government’s efforts to reduce hunger, malnutrition and poverty through national social protection schemes.
  2. Support the formulation and provision of technical assistance packages to government counterparts (Ministry of Social Development, National Aid Fund and Ministry of Education) to enhance national social protection systems, including targeting, entitlement, delivery, verification, accountability, evidence generation and reporting.

B. Widen the technical knowledge on social protection through research and analysis **

  1. Contribute to the consolidation, development and dissemination of knowledge and/or advocacy products pertinent to shock-responsiveness and inclusiveness of the national social protection system.
  2. Research, analyse and support technical work on the alignment of WFP’s humanitarian assistance to refugees (GFA) and national social safety net in the context of humanitarian-development-peace nexus.
  3. Contribute to generating technical know-how pertinent to social security and livelihoods/resilience building programmes to formulate potential support schemes for different segments of the population.
  4. Contribute to generating technical knowledge related to de-centralized initiatives and actors within the area of social protection in Jordan.
  5. Research to identify new funding opportunities for the social protection unit and support development of funding proposals.

C. Solidify the WFP’s strategic position and partnerships within social protection **

  1. Support strategic orientation pertinent to WFP’s role in social protection landscape in Jordan through identification of opportunities for WFP’s forward-looking positioning and engagement with the host government and development partners.
  2. Support other current or new initiatives relevant to social protection together with key partners, such as the World Bank and UN agencies including UNICEF, ILO and UNDP.
  3. Support advocacy efforts of WFP to improve the social protection schemes together with government and main partners.
  4. Attend external events linked to social protection and contribute to CO’s social protection strategic positioning.
