The Opportunity
Save the Children International works in all contexts to inspire breakthroughs in the way the world treats children, and create lasting change in children’s lives. Programme Quality, Evidence and Impact (PQEI) is a core function in all Save the Children International programmes globally, representing our commitment to accountability and transparency, and is crucial aspect of quality programme management within Save the Children. The primary role of the Research and Evaluation Officer will be to: 1. Conduct research to inform program design and planning and decision-making at the regional and country-level; and 2. Conduct evaluations of high priority programs, advocacy, and campaigning work that Save the Children is conducting in the Asia Pacific region.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic research and evaluation support
- Support the team in preparing research and evaluation proposals, and management of the Team pipeline of research and evaluation studies.
- Seek and create opportunities to broaden the scope of the research and evaluation through contacts and networking across projects in country office, the movement and beyond.
- Collate data and conduct descriptive analysis to identify and define emerging issues affecting Child Rights across APAC.
- Conduct systematic evidence reviews and literature reviews to employ ethical and professional research or evaluation design and methodologies.
Research and Evaluation Design
Support the Research and Evaluation Specialists to:
- Plan and budget research and evaluation studies.
- Design research and evaluation studies, including the sampling, recruitment, data collection and data analysis methods.
- Develop sampling, participant recruitment and data collection implementation guidance for project teams to undertake.
- Develop data collection tools, such as surveys (paper-based and online platform) and interview or focus group discussion questionnaires.
- Prepare templates for qualitative data transcription and analysis.
- Prepare study protocol and materials for submissions to the Ethics Review Committee, ensuring ethical, inclusive, gender sensitive research practices and child-safeguarding and protection are at the forefront of all activities throughout the study cycle.
- Develop Data Protection Impact Assessments and Plans, ensuring responsible data management and GDPR compliance throughout the study cycle.
Data Management and Analysis
- Facilitate study folder, file and data management systems and record keeping
- Conduct quantitative data cleaning and prepare data set for analysis, support data visualization (e.g., chart/graphs, table, image/icon).
- Conduct qualitative data analysis, particularly on content analysis; provide content with reference to the meanings, contexts and intentions contained in respondent messages.
Report Writing and Knowledge Translation
Support the Research and Evaluation Specialists to:
- Draft research reports and learning products such as evidence to action briefs, fact sheets and presentations based on the research or evaluation report
- Support the Communications Team to develop dissemination plans for research and evaluation result (e.g., publication of articles and reports) tailored to a variety of audience (e.g., country office project team and partners/ stakeholders and across movement) to help influence decision making and program improvements.
- Support the Communications Team to design attractive and child-friendly ways of packaging such products.
- Contribute to knowledge exchange and learning activities
