Regional Researcher and Campaigner (Pakistan) At Amnesty International

Are you an experienced human rights researcher with significant experience conducting research in Pakistan looking to utilise your skills to support our mission where human rights are enjoyed by all?

JOB PURPOSE

As one of Amnesty International’s experts on Pakistan, you will develop and implement research and campaigning strategies, delivering impactful research and campaigns in relation to agreed priorities, providing research and campaigning expertise, managing and coordinating actions on human rights concerns by using and developing knowledge on Pakistan, and supporting and liaising with Amnesty International movement and outside networks to ensure maximum impact.

ABOUT YOU

You will have knowledge and experience in researching various human rights issues in Pakistan, as well as in campaign design and delivery, and you will be able to develop and implement effective strategies within the overall strategy on Pakistan. With experience working on human rights issues, you will have significant knowledge and be able to provide expert advice on Pakistan’s political and socio-economic situation.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Co-develop a strategic research and investigations plan with the country team, investigating the human rights concerns impacting human rights issues in Pakistan;
  • Manage technical aspects of the research projects from conceptualisation through to publications and launch; keep projects on track to reach pre-defined milestones; participate in crisis response as needed to contribute to the overall smooth running of the project;
  • Proactively identify opportunities to investigate human rights abuses in Pakistan; use outputs of research and investigations to inform Amnesty’s policy recommendations, advocacy and campaigning;
  • Contribute to producing timely, high quality and effective reports, data visualisations, briefings, position papers, action materials, press releases, and other internal and external documents; work closely with comms and advocacy roles in Amnesty’s South Asia team to communicate and deliver outputs with impact;
  • Lead on developing and implementing campaigning strategies, managing and coordinating actions on human rights concerns in Pakistan.

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Significant experience working in a human rights research role, with experience in Pakistan with expertise in conducting human rights investigations and research; a working knowledge of campaigns is required
  • Advanced Degree or equivalent qualifications/experience in law or social sciences;
  • Strong technical understanding of the international human rights law framework on human rights issues in Pakistan that may include enforced disappearances, freedom of expression and associated rights, freedom of religion and climate change;
  • Experience in conducting field research, contacts and networks with civil society groups in Pakistan;
  • Experience in strategic campaigning, including knowledge of the steps required to devise campaigning strategy and awareness of the need for actions and campaigning techniques to be based on strategies and be adapted to effect changes in a given situation
  • Demonstrated experience in carrying out human rights research and investigations projects and producing high-quality outputs, and ability to work independently and to lead the country team
