Senior Communications Officer At INTERSOS

JOB PURPOSE

Under the supervision of the Head of Mission (HoM), the Senior Communications Officer will be responsible for delivery of quality internal and external communications outcome and outputs for enhancing our organizational profile and strengthen the humanitarian advocacy among the public, partners, donors and other stakeholders. The Senior Communications Officer shall develop and design publications and audio-visual materials on our operations, and coordinate the organization of major events and campaigns.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develops and implements effective communications strategies for various targeted audience.
  • Keeps track of donor and agency requirements on reporting and visibility and ensures success stories, reporting and visibility materials are delivered on time.
  • Writes, edits, designs, and distributes communications materials, including publications, bulletins, brochures, success stories, press releases, stories on website and social media, annual reports, speeches, and other publicity materials that promote the organization’s key messages, activities, and services.
  • Conducts interviews with beneficiaries/ staff/ partners/ key stakeholders for reporting.
  • Propose outlines of documentaries of our services, and lead preparation for interviewees and related logistics.
  • Captures and edits photos and videos for reporting and awareness raising on prioritized themes.
  • Manages all communications arrangements in key external events organized by the mission.
  • Manages social media for the mission.
  • Supports program teams in improving designs of IEC and/or visibility materials for enhanced effectiveness.
  • Conducts capacity building for program staff in story writing and capturing of audio-visual resources.
  • Maintain the media database (photos, videos, stories, etc) for the mission.
  • Handles media inquiries and arrange media interviews for major events/ campaigns.
  • Establishes and maintains effective relationships with journalists and maintains a media database.
  • Seeks opportunities to enhance the reputation of the brand, and coordinate publicity events as required.
  • Maintains records of media coverage and collates analytics and metrics.
  • And any other tasks as assigned.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

Professional Requirements

  • Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in media, mass communications, journalism, marketing, public relations, or related field; or having a minimum of 3-year working experience in the field of communications in lieu of this qualification requirement.
  • Minimum of 1-year relevant experience in a communications role.
  • Knowledge of desktop publishing and photo-editing software (e.g. InDesign, Photoshop, etc).
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal skills.
  • Good time management and organizational skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, content management systems, and social media platforms.

Organisational Requirements

  • Act as an ambassador for INTERSOS Nigeria, through professionalism and conduct.
  • Adhere to all INTERSOS policies and procedures both technical and administrational.
  • Undertake and apply learning from appropriate training and development programmes.
  • Maintain and care for all equipment issued by INTERSOS Nigeria and for any losses or damages due to negligence you will be liable for repair or replacement.
