ABOUT YOUR ROLE

As a Climate Change Adaptation Sector Expert you will play a leading role in the growth of SEEK’s Climate Change practice through client advisory, business development, intellectual property creation and internal capability building. As an expert consultant, you will directly support leading international development clients on impactful projects advancing action in climate change adaptation and resilience. You will also work closely with other practice members in planning SEEK’s growth in the sector, building our network and driving business development. As the sector expert, you will lead our intelligence and knowledge building efforts, sharing your expertise and advising other SEEK project teams working in the sector. Overall, this role allows you to work with exciting clients, on critical challenges in your sector of interest, and shape the direction of the sector and SEEK’s climate change practice through our client networks.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Participate as a key member of project teams working with exciting clients in your sector (Climate Change Adaptation, Agriculture and Food Systems or WaSH and WRM), helping solve the challenging and important issues they face in delivering impact
  • Provide expert advice to other project teams working in your sector to enhance the quality and impact of their work, improving SEEK’s capacity to position as a trusted advisor to our climate adaptation clients
  • Support business development for your sector – strategize how we scale our practice, maintain and build a network of relationships in the sector, and engage around key activities and events
  • Lead intelligence gathering, analysis of key debates and events relevant to climate adaptation and facilitate knowledge sharing and experiences in this area within SEEK and externally with stakeholders in the sector
  • Lead external communications and outreach activities- plan external outreach, prepare studies, publish insights, moderate workshops and discussions on key topics, and represent SEEK at key events
  • Plan and lead internal knowledge building and learning to strengthen SEEK’s capacity to engage in key global debates and position us as a trusted advisor to clients in the sector

This role is suitable for young professionals from junior to mid level.

ABOUT YOU

You are passionate about social impact, particularly climate change, and want to put your expertise in your sector to use in delivering systemic change. Strategic, entrepreneurial, collaborative and curious, you effectively utilize the power of cutting-edge analyses and enjoy working in teams that drive the delivery of innovative solutions and look at challenges from a holistic perspective. You are a committed self-starter, with an entrepreneurial spirit and strong qualifications.

WHAT MAKES YOU A GREAT FIT FOR THIS EXCITING ROLE:

  • At least 3 years of experience working in an international development organisation, research institute or related actor in the field of either: climate change adaption; agriculture & food systems or WaSH and WRM
    • Your experience includes an external facing/ stakeholder engagement role such as in partnerships, policy and advocacy, or strategy
    • Your knowledge and interest in climate finance, modalities and innovations would be valuable
    • You are conversant with the key actors, the prevalent discourse, key events and other moments within your sector
  • You have previous experience engaging with UN, iNGO or other actors with basic understanding of their language and approach.
  • You are interested in and excited to engage further with the sector at large and drive change – you have a point of view on key debates and topics in your sector
  • You are excited to combine your entrepreneurial spirit and sector expertise to advance SEEK’s climate change practice

WHAT ARE OUR BASIC EXPECTATIONS:

  • Past experience in a consulting, think tank or other advisory organisation would be an additional advantage
  • Comfortable writing short and long-form narratives/ articles
  • Ability to conduct basic data analysis, using excel or other tools
  • Ability to operate independently with little oversight or guidance
  • Experience with basic data analysis, problem-solving, and qualitative interviews
  • Comfortable with independently identifying and engaging with external partners
  • Ability to communicate complex ideas effectively and present information in an insightful manner
  • Fluent in English; German or another official UN language is considered an additional advantage

WHAT SUCCESS IN THIS ROLE COULD LOOK LIKE AFTER YOUR FIRST YEAR WITH US:

  • You participated in and helped deliver key modules in 2-3 client projects
  • You planned SEEK’s business growth in your sector with the practice team and successfully supported at least 3 business development efforts by leveraging our sector intelligence work
  • You lead our SEEK’s communications in the sector, and have orchestrated our presence at key sector events
  • You have taken the lead on our Donor Tracker policy and insight writing with an established output plan and at least one insight per quarter
