Site Engineer At Institute for University Co-operation

PROJECTS BACKGROUND AND DESCRIPTION

ICU has been active in Jordan since 1999. Among the main activities in the country, ICU has managed interventions in the agricultural, energy and business support sectors. Furthermore, since the beginning of the Syrian crisis it has implemented projects in favor of the most vulnerable categories such as minors, women and people with disabilities.

The project aims to promote the inclusion of children with disabilities, Jordanians and refugees, in the Jordanian public education system starting with pre-school age children, through a set of educational and extra-educational support activities (e.g. provision of support and rehabilitation services, creation of personalized educational plans, teacher training, awareness raising activities).

The Site Engineer will be responsible for the technical supervision of the rehabilitation works in 7 schools in Irbid Governorate. The activities will be implemented in Irbid Governorate; the Engineer is required to travel to project’s areas.

DUTIES AND RESPONSABILITIES

Support the Project Manager in the daily management of the project’s activities:

  • Conduct technical field visits and assessments in each schools to draft projects designs, ensuring technical feasibility and project objectives;
  • Liaison with Authorities to obtain necessary authorization for the work to be executed and to ensure coordination of activities throughout the works duration;
  • Prepare designs, drawings and construction contract documentation;
  • Coordinate and preparing tenders and procurement documentation for the company in charge of the site works (in line with donor procedures);
  • Supervision of the construction works, programming and co-ordination, acting as the project focal point between ICU and third parties;
  • Accountancy, reporting and monitoring of expenses;
  • Supervision and follow up with partners and stakeholders;
  • Other duties if necessary;

JOB REQUIREMENTS

  • Advanced University degree in Engineering or Architecture or related Engineering discipline;
  • At least 5 years of related professional experience; preferably with previous experience in public sector or in a non-governmental organization;
  • Demonstrated ability to work with deadlines and lead multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment;
  • Excellent knowledge of standard office software, such as MS Office (especially Excel and Power Point);
  • Fluency in Arabic and English, written and spoken;
  • Driving license
  • Availability to field missions;
  • Jordanian Nationality;
  • AutoCAD user

SKILLS

  • Ability to handle multiple tasks, prioritize and stay organized to ensure timely and accurate work;
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills;
  • Ability to draft reports and analyses and edit results in appropriate format;
  • Good interpersonal communication skills and ability to effectively work in a multi-cultural work environment;
