SUSTAINABLE FOREST MANAGEMENT AND CLIMATE CHANGE EXPERT (M/W) At Expertise France

The consultant must teach part of the course defined in Module I, specifically the contents described in the sub-module Relationship between MFS and Climate Change, as listed below:

  • · MFS as a climate change mitigation tool;
  • · National and international examples of the use of the MFS as a climate mitigation tool;
  • · Impact of the MFS on the NDC in Brazil; MFS and REDD+;
  • · The MFS in the global discussion of climate change mitigation.

The content of the course may be modified under the approval from the project coordination. The consultant will have a total of 8 hours to address the contents listed above, including time for knowledge fixation exercises.

It is expected that the contractor expresses the content in a clear and didactic way, seeking the involvement of students and answering the questions raised. The course will be taught in an online format, with the participation of 55 students (there may be a variation in this number), all public servants of environmental agencies working in Sustainable Forest Management in the Amazon. It is important to emphasize that the course will be fully recorded.

The videos with the classes will be made available on Ibama’s Distance Learning (EAD) platform (https://escolavirtual.ibama.gov.br/), and will be available to new platform students.

The course will have monitors for the organization of classes and discussions. The consultant will perform their skills in the following areas (non-exhaustive tasks):

a) Preparation of 1 sub-module for distance training:

Preparation of a sub-module on the Relationship between MFS and Climate Change within the scope of Module I – Management sustainable forestry and climate change.

The sub-module should include at least the following topics:

MFS as a climate change mitigation tool; National and international examples of the use of MFS as a climate mitigation tool; Impact of MFS on the NDC in Brazil; MFS and REDD+;

MFS in the global discussion of mitigation to climate change.

b) Realization of virtual classes Virtual live classes in Portuguese.

The teacher must have the basic tools to teach the classes (connection platform, virtual pedagogical tools that he intends to use during the class…).

c) Conducting assessments Conduct a skills assessment at the beginning of the course (assess the students’ prior knowledge).

Conduct a final knowledge assessment for the participants.)

d) Follow-up to coordination / preparation meetings.

The specialist must accompany the coordination and preparation meetings of the sub-module with the PE and the local team in Brazil. Expected results of the contractor Preparation of a Lesson Plan two weeks before the course; Preparation of exercises to be applied during the course, with the purpose of fixing student’s knowledge and assessment;

Teaching the topics indicated in 8 hours of online class.

Product 2 – Sub-module I on structured MFS (content, methodology and work tools) — T0 + 3 weeks

Modalities of execution

The activities covered by this contract can be carried out remotely, through the use of videoconference.

Classes are scheduled to start on December 6th, and end on December 17th (half day for two weeks).

  • Mestrado ou Pós-graduação em Manejo Florestal Sustentável e/ou Mudanças Climáticas ou experiência profissional relevante na área
  • Pelo menos 10 anos de experiência profissional na área de Manejo Florestal Sustentável e/ou Mudanças Climáticas, principalmente em Docência em um dos temas;
  • Domínio do tema de Mudanças Climáticas;
  • Conhecimento de da política brasileira de Manejo Florestal Sustentável;
  • Conhecimento de da política brasileira de Mudanças Climáticas;
  • Conhecimento de experiencias nacionais e internacionais de uso do Manejo Florestal Sustentável como ferramenta de mitigação às mudanças climáticas;
  • Conhecimento de REDD+.

Capacidades e habilidades

  • Grande capacidade para transmitir conhecimentos de forma didática;
  • Familiaridade com plataformas de reuniões virtuais;

  • Type of contract: Service provision contract (fees/day).
  • Starting date: November 22, 2021.
  • Duration: maximum 15 working days in a period of 40 calendar days (16 hours of classes + preparatory meetings + preparation of class.)
  • Fees: To be negotiated.
  • Payment: 50% of the fees for products 1, 2 and 3 and 50% will be paid after the conclusion of the classes.
