Technical Specialist in Gender and Protection At Action against Hunger Spain

The technical specialist in gender and protection of the Colombia mission, ensures and leads the incorporation of the gender policy both internally, in the management of the teams as well as in the management of programs and projects of the mission. She contributes in a coherent and pertinent manner to the mission strategy and the country’s needs from her sector of expertise.

Represents Action Against Hunger at the sector level in the different external coordination spaces required in the area.

The main activities you will perform are the following:

Objective 1: Implement Gender Equality and Protection Policies and Strategies in the mission.

  • Analyze the current situation and challenges regarding gender and protection in the mission in collaboration with the different sectors and programs;
  • Integrate gender and protection into the Mission strategy, in accordance with the strategy and guidelines of ACH Spain;
  • Prepare an action plan for the application of gender and protection strategies in the Colombian mission and monitor its implementation and progress;
  • Conceptually and methodologically guide the production of key inputs such as regional gender analyses, the measurement of gender mainstreaming in projects, and work plans at the base level to guarantee the adequate incorporation of the gender approach in the regions.
  • Design and disseminate process maps in your work area to guarantee the efficiency and coherence of the actions of the work teams.
  • Contribute to the implementation of GMS (gender minimum standards) and GTS (gender transformative standards) in country offices in coordination with MEAL teams.
  • Hold periodic coordination meetings with the Gender and Protection Representative of ACF Spain, to report on the progress of the implementation of the Gender and Protection agendas and exchange experiences.
  • Represent Action Against Hunger at the sector level in the different external coordination spaces required in the areas.

Objective 2: Help mission staff improve their technical knowledge and consolidate their practices and competencies in matters of gender and protection.

  • Provide technical knowledge and advice on gender and protection issues to sectors and bases on the ground;
  • Conduct field visits to evaluate the quality of programs and support the appropriation, development and implementation of the gender and protection approach;
  • Develop tools, guides, protocols and training modules on Gender and Protection and ensure their dissemination and appropriation;
  • Facilitate training for staff and partner organizations to improve their technical knowledge and the application of practical tools on gender and protection.
  • Actively participate in the “Protection Integration in Nutrition Security” (PIINS) project, through training, review and deployment of methodologies and tools regarding protection at the territorial, national and regional level.
  • Coordinate and technical supervision of the work of the people responsible for Gender and Protection at the bases.
  • In close collaboration with the HR department, select, supervise and evaluate the people responsible for Gender and Protection at the bases.

Objective 3: Guide and guarantee the technical quality and implementation of the actions developed in contracts and programs regarding gender and protection

  • Follow up on projects that have technical gender and protection components, and all actions of other sectors to ensure the incorporation of the main quality elements, guidelines and processes established in the Gender and Protection Policies and Strategies.
  • Monitor the main gender and protection indicators and ensure that appropriate tools are incorporated for data collection, analysis of indicators and results in coordination with the MEAL area.
  • Monitor in the field the activities of all projects and specific ones for gender and protection to guarantee the quality and harmonious work of the teams with the guidelines of the areas.
  • Actively participate in project monitoring meetings planned by the Production Unit Mission, Incorporate elements of innovation (including transversal approaches: environment and sensitivity to conflict) in the activities developed that give added value to the most vulnerable beneficiary communities and produce changes in quality of life.
  • Participate in calls for attention in sudden emergencies with specific proposals and emergency actions in your sector.
  • Guide, from your sector, the design of information collection tools in the different phases of the projects, and guarantee the availability of said tools in the project preparation phase.
  • Actively participate in the formulation processes with the Grants Unit, which contain both your work sector specifically, and in general to guarantee the incorporation of the gender transformative approach, as well as the mainstreaming of protection, throughout the approach and technical and programmatic design.

Does this description fit you?

    1. Graduated professional in the area of ​​social and human sciences (political science, psychology, law, sociology, anthropology). Postgraduate studies or master’s degree in gender and women’s empowerment and/or child protection (Mandatory)
    1. Demonstrated experience of a minimum of three (3) years in specific actions to mainstream the gender perspective in processes of needs identification, formulation, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of projects. Five (5) years of experience in specific protection actions (organizations or project coordination and management). Work experience in international cooperation. Interinstitutional coordination activities with actors linked to the gender approach and women’s empowerment. Interdisciplinary work and team leadership. In formulation and management of development cooperation projects (project cycle).
    1. Specialized knowledge of gender. Management of theoretical and conceptual language about gender and protection. Knowledge of national and international regulatory frameworks on gender and protection. Knowledge of the field of Sexual and Reproductive Health.
    1. Languages: Spanish (C2); Intermediate level of English (desirable).
    1. Office automation and specific systems: Mastery of the Office package. Knowledge in the use of tools that ensure innovation and quality in work management is valued (Kobo, POwerBi).
