Logistics Assistant – International Logistics Department At French Red Cross

With several projects in 18 countries of intervention and 3 platforms, as well as in the professions that it develops and implements in France, the French Red Cross internationally places all its missions in a sustainable humanitarian action plan.

This translates into a coordination of emergency, post-emergency, crisis recovery and reconstruction activities aimed at achieving maximum efficiency. The objective is to carry out actions with lasting effects and to enable populations to regain their full autonomy.

FRAMEWORK AND OBJECTIVE OF THE INTERNSHIP CONTRACT:

The logistics and international purchasing department of the French Red Cross is integrated into the International Operations Department.

The department, made up of 14 people, is dedicated to international missions (Africa, Caribbean, Middle East, Europe, DROM/COM, etc.). It is organized around two units: purchasing / logistics.

The logistics center carries out the following missions:

  • Deploy logistics policy adapted to the CRF’s international activities and programs and in compliance with regulations. In this context, he also provides advice and technical support in the field.
  • Support operations and organize logistics activities
  • Coordinate the flows necessary for the completion of projects and optimize purchasing and logistics costs

The overall objective is to provide support to both the logistics project managers and the logistics manager, as well as to support the purchasing department.
This contract will enable the apprentice to acquire the professional skills (technical and human) to be able to exercise responsibilities in the humanitarian logistics sector.

INTERN’S MISSIONS:

Within the logistics-purchasing office, under the responsibility of the logistics referent, the intern will ensure, after a training period:

  • Operations support and project monitoring
    • Support procurement: monitoring of purchasing plans, verification of purchasing files to ensure their compliance, participation and collaboration in tender evaluation committees
    • Assist the logistics representative in the analysis and validation of field suppliers
    • Participate in the analysis of logistics reporting: verify and control the updating of logistics reporting for missions.
    • Help with the use of performance indicators
    • Participate in department coordination meetings.
    • Assist logistics representatives in their support to delegations.
  • Equipment stock management:
    • Support the management of telecoms and IT equipment (invoicing/cost monitoring/maintenance and after-sales service).
    • Update monitoring tables (equipment monitoring, electronic archiving of files)
    • Track donations
    • Participate in carrying out inventories.
  • Management of departures/arrivals of equipment at headquarters:
    • Prepare and check the equipment before shipping
    • Participate in the organization of freight
    • Monitor the corresponding management tables and manage the documentation
  • Fleet management:
    • Assist the logistics manager in analyzing fleet reports
    • Carry out the administrative management of part of the delegation fleet
  • Archive management
    • Participate in archiving documentation from the field.

The intern will be entrusted with other cross-functional or ad hoc missions which will enrich his/her logistical skills and knowledge of humanitarian operations: supply chain management, creation of tools, assistance in drafting and reviewing procedures, etc. He/she will benefit from PAD (preparation for departure) and any other
internal training necessary for the execution of his/her tasks.

Depending on current events and field demands on the one hand, and the abilities demonstrated by the intern on the other hand, he/she may apply to join the logistics pool with a view to going into the field following his/her internship.

Practical information related to the position

  • CONTRACT DURATION : 6 months minimum, full-time, in person at the French Red Cross headquarters
  • START DATE : September
  • LOCATION: France – Montrouge
  • COMPENSATION: According to legal provisions – reimbursement of 50% of transport costs – access to the company restaurant with employer contribution to the cost of the meal
  • Internship agreement with a compulsory training structure

SKILLS :

  • Minimum BAC level
  • Proficiency in IT tools such as Office Pack and G-suite, particularly spreadsheets.
  • Good level of English.
  • Good writing skills
  • Initial experience and technical skills in the fields of logistics (purchasing, transport, inventory, equipment management, humanitarian health, etc.)
  • Knowledge of the humanitarian environment appreciated.
