HEALING – INNOVATING – TOGETHER: Since its creation in 2009, ALIMA has reached more than 18 million beneficiaries in 15 countries, primarily in Africa. In 2024, we developed 59 humanitarian medical response projects to address the needs of populations affected by conflict, epidemics, and extreme poverty. All of these projects are carried out in support of national health authorities through healthcare facilities (including hospitals and health centers). Our work stems from a constant adaptation to the realities on the ground and advances in medicine. In 2024, ALIMA reached 5.9 million beneficiaries. We work in partnership, particularly with local NGOs, whenever possible to ensure that our patients benefit from expertise wherever it is found, whether in their own country or elsewhere in the world. Furthermore, to improve the humanitarian response, we are conducting operational and clinical research projects, particularly in the area of ​​combating malnutrition and viral hemorrhagic fevers.
THE ALIMA TEAM: More than 2,000 people currently work for ALIMA. The field teams, working closest to patients, receive support from the coordination teams, generally based in the capital cities of the countries where they operate. These teams are supported by the four desk teams and the emergency and openings team based at the operational headquarters in Dakar, Senegal. The teams in Paris and New York actively work on fundraising and representing ALIMA. The rest of the ALIMA network includes individuals and partner teams working for other organizations such as the medical NGOs BEFEN, ALERTE Santé, SOS Médecins/KEOOGO, and AMCP; the research organizations PACCI, INSERM, and INRB; the Universities of Bordeaux and Copenhagen; the NGO Solidarités International; and many others.
OUR PROJECT THEMES: Malnutrition, Sexual and reproductive health including gender-based violence, Primary and secondary health, surgery, pediatric care, deadly diseases such as Malaria, ARI, Diarrhea, Epidemics (Hemorrhagic fevers, meningitis, Cholera, Measles, Dengue, Covid-19).
OUR COUNTRIES OF INTERVENTION: Mali, Burkina Faso, Central African Republic, Ethiopia, Haiti, Nigeria, Niger, Chad, Democratic Republic of Congo, Cameroon, Guinea, South Sudan, Senegal, Mauritania and Sudan.
CONTEXT
The management accountant’s main mission is to assist the Finance Department in producing the organization’s accounts on time and ensuring their consistency.
In this capacity, he/she manages the control and reliability of mission accounting, ensures proper coordination between the accounting tools of headquarters and missions, and participates in closing procedures.
The mission management accountant is in charge of controlling the accounting packages and cover letter of the accounting for field missions and of supporting the financial coordinators and field accounting managers.
JOB LOCATION: Dakar Operational Office
FUNCTIONAL AND HIERARCHICAL LINKS
He/She will work under the hierarchical and functional responsibility of the Head of Accounting and will collaborate with other members of ALIMA’s Administrative and Operational departments (finance desks, BAP, etc.). For the purposes of your mission, you will maintain ongoing contact with field operations and establish a close relationship with financial coordinators and accounting managers in the field.
PROTECTION OF BENEFICIARIES AND COMMUNITY MEMBERS
Level 1: The job holder will not have contact with children and/or vulnerable adults, nor access to their personal data in the course of their work. Therefore, a criminal record check or a certificate of good conduct will not be required for this position, unless the job description changes, in which case the level of protection for vulnerable populations will need to be reviewed.
MAIN MISSION
You control the correct application of ALIMA’s accounting rules and procedures on all documents produced by the Missions.
By analyzing the cover letters, you will formalize alerts regarding any anomalies identified during the review of the accounting packages, while also proposing corrective actions. You will be responsible for ensuring that the reported anomalies are corrected.
You contribute to the accounting of expatriate staff payroll and the monitoring of social security accounts.
MAIN ACTIVITIES
You will act as a liaison between head office accounting and mission accounting, and will be responsible for checking cover letters and accounting packages for ALIMA’s various missions, including:
- Ensure that the monthly mission accounts are made available at headquarters according to the planned schedule (in support of the finance desks)
- Check accounting packages: compliance and completeness of bank statements, bank reconciliations and cash inventories
- monitor salary advance accounts and various deductions (break tickets, tuition fees, social security contributions) and ensure reciprocity between Saga and Odoo
- monitor fund transfer accounts in the same currency and/or in two different currencies between Saga and Odoo and ensure reciprocity (fund transfers between headquarters in Dakar and missions)
- to monitor the accounts for transfers of funds between missions or transfers of expenses between missions and to ensure inter-mission reciprocity
- Monitoring of advance field accounts… taxes, etc.
- Report anomalies to the relevant departments and ensure that the corrections requested in Saga are properly implemented by the field accounting managers.
- communicate to the missions the additional costs to be taken into account in Saga
- ensure that the assignment schedule is available for expatriate employees
- To produce or develop accounting tools that take into account the evolving needs of the missions
You will participate in the annual closing of accounts and in particular:
- produce the annual reconciliation statements between Saga and Odoo for specific balance sheet accounts
- produce and analyze the annual reconciliation statements of the balance sheet accounts of the missions
- justify the cash cycle of all cash registers and bank accounts opened in the field
- respond in conjunction with the Accounting Manager to requests from the chartered accountant and the auditor
You support and train field accountants, and in particular:
- Support the field accounting managers in ALIMA financial procedures
- Conduct accounting briefings upon onboarding.
- Conduct field missions to strengthen team capacities and support the implementation of recommendations
- support missions on the use of SAGA software
- Support the financial coordinators and field accounting managers in exporting accounting entries from headquarters using the ODOO software.
COMPETENCES et EXPERIENCES
Level of education
Higher education in accounting, finance or management (minimum Bac +2).
Excellent command of the principles of general accounting, analytical accounting and accounting closing techniques.
Experiences
Professional experience: minimum 2 years as an accountant (humanitarian experience preferred)
Experience in accounting for multiple entities or sites is appreciated.
Excellent command of computer software and tools: Excel, Word, Odoo, SAARI;
Language skills
Fluent French
Professional English
Other knowledge
Knowledge of Saga and Google Drive would be a plus
