Manager, Child Protection At International Medical Corps

  1. Job Summary

The Child Protection Manager is responsible for the implementation of a child protection program, including technical oversight of services and activities, capacity building, staff support and supervision, internal and external coordination, and reporting.

  1. Essential Tasks and Expected Results:

Program Planning

  • Lead child protection assessments, as needed, maximizing available information sources and coordination opportunities and ensuring compliance with safety and ethical standards.
  • Identify local partners to strengthen local efforts to promote children’s rights and address child protection issues.
  • Ensure that programs are planned with community stakeholders
  • Identify appropriate locations and referrals for services, including child-safe spaces
  • Contribute to concept notes/proposals/calls for tenders as required
  • Develop and implement project work plans, in accordance with project goals, objectives, staffing and budget

Implementation and capacity building

  • Work closely with the Child Protection Technical Advisor and Child Protection Coordinator (if applicable), senior management at the national level and the program team to achieve program objectives and ensure the quality of child protection prevention and response initiatives.
    • Ensure compliance with International Medical Corp’s Minimum Child Protection Standards, as well as relevant inter-institutional guidelines and standards
    • Lead the implementation of program interventions, including the establishment and delivery of targeted child protection intervention services
    • Build capacity of program staff/volunteers/partners in relevant technical areas to deliver services and lead interventions
    • Organize/support/conduct technical trainings as needed, including child protection case management and basic child protection concepts
    • Establish and monitor supervision and support systems for child protection case management services
    • Establish appropriate systems for information management
    • Ensure effective community participation throughout implementation
    • Work with teams and communities to develop appropriate prevention, awareness and behavior change strategies.
    • Lead regular program monitoring and apply lessons learned for continuous improvement of interventions, working with monitoring and evaluation staff as appropriate
    • Contribute to the development and review of regular program reports, on time and with accurate data.

Coordination, representation and advocacy

  • Coordinate with other service providers and gather community input to establish and strengthen referral pathways
    • Actively participate in relevant coordination meetings to ensure visibility of IMC’s child protection program within relevant coordination forums
    • Coordinate with other sectors, and build their capacity, where possible, to ensure the integration of child protection concerns into various services and the broader humanitarian response.
    • Represent program objectives and child protection standards, advocating, where necessary, with relevant leaders, authorities and humanitarian actors

Human resources management

  • Select and orient program staff/volunteers/partners for effective implementation
    • Support, coach and supervise staff to strengthen capacity and the quality of interventions
    • Develop support strategies for staff, foster team spirit and introduce self-care principles
    • Provide encouraging and constructive feedback and conduct regular performance reviews

Financial management

  • Develop work plans aligned with financial pipelines
    • Plan and purchase supplies needed for program activities within the project budget and schedule
    • Ensure compliance with donor regulations
    • Contribute to the development and monitoring of child protection program budgets

Safety and driving

  • Ensure compliance with security protocols and policies
    • Consider the security implications of all program activities, reviewing initiatives with appropriate stakeholders
    • Foster a safe and supportive working environment for all child protection staff/volunteers/partners
    • Illustrate the fundamental principles of child protection programs
    • Contribute to the positive image and overall credibility of the program and organization, including adherence to the Code of Conduct and Ethics, including compliance with anti-harassment, safeguarding, and PSEA policies

Ethical Conduct of IMC Staff

International Medical Corps maintains a code of conduct standards that shall govern the performance of its employees engaged in the awarding and administration of contracts. Staff must actively promote the PSEA (Prevention of Sexual Exploitation and Abuse) standards within International Medical Corps and among the beneficiaries served by International Medical Corps.

Compliance and Ethics

Promote and encourage a culture of compliance and ethics within International Medical Corps. As applicable to the position, maintains a clear understanding of and adheres to International Medical Corps and donor compliance and ethics standards. Performs work with the highest level of integrity. Communicates these values ​​to staff and partners and requires their adherence to them.

  1. Qualification, Skills and Experience
  • Typically, a bachelor’s degree in a related field, such as psychology, social work, or education. An equivalent combination of relevant training and experience may be accepted where appropriate.
  • Typically 7+ years of relevant and progressive experience in child protection related field, ideally in humanitarian programs
  • Demonstrated application of core child protection skills and commitment to the fundamental principles of child protection programs
  • Knowledge of child development
  • Relevant regional experience desired.
  • Strong knowledge of standard child protection resources and technical approaches
  • Experience or extensive knowledge of child protection case management services.
  • Experience in staff capacity building.
  • Experience in training and facilitation, including experience in developing training materials.
  • Knowledge of humanitarian architecture and mandates/roles of donors, UN agencies and other NGOs
  • Experience working with local partners and in community mobilization desired.
  • Deep intercultural sensitivity
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment, remain flexible and apply experience and advice to ever-changing challenges.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills in French and English and other local languages ​​as required.
  • Good interpersonal and advocacy skills
