JOB SUMMARY
The Media Coordinator is responsible for developing, managing, and implementing media and communication strategies to highlight UITYD’s medical projects and humanitarian interventions across all of Syria. The role entails gathering field stories, producing high-quality multimedia content (photos, videos, and written reports), and managing the organization’s social media presence to enhance visibility and engagement. The Media Coordinator works closely with program and medical teams to document activities accurately and safely, ensuring compliance with donor visibility guidelines and strict adherence to patient consent and protection standards.
MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Content Creation and Documentation:
- Produce high-quality photography and videography from the field, documenting medical operations, capacity-building trainings, and patient success stories.
- Write and edit compelling press releases, human interest stories, and website articles highlighting the impact of healthcare interventions.
- Design basic visual materials (infographics, flyers, social media cards) for external communication.
- Manage and regularly update UITYD’s social media platforms (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn) with engaging and relevant content.
- Monitor social media metrics and prepare regular reports on reach, engagement, and communication impact.
- Assist in developing the organization’s overall communication strategy and digital campaigns.
- Ensure all media outputs strictly comply with UITYD policies and specific donor visibility guidelines.
- Coordinate closely with field medical staff and regional offices across the whole of Syria to identify impactful stories and organize safe media visits.
- Archive all media assets (photos, videos, consent forms) systematically for easy access by management and donor reporting teams.
- Any other tasks assigned by the line manager.
QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in journalism, Media, Communications, Public Relations, or a related field.
Experience:
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in media, journalism, or communications, preferably within the humanitarian or NGO sector.
- Proven experience in multimedia production (photography and videography) in active field settings.
Skills:
- Proficiency in photo and video editing software (e.g., Adobe Premiere, Photoshop, Lightroom).
- Excellent storytelling, copywriting, and editing skills.
- Strong understanding of social media algorithms and content management.
- Ability to work under pressure, adapt to changing situations, and travel frequently within conflict-affected settings.
Preferred Attributes:
- Deep understanding of the humanitarian context and medical projects in Syria.
- Fluency in Arabic and intermediate to advanced level in English.
- Good skills in Microsoft Office applications.
- Demonstrated commitment to humanitarian principles, patient confidentiality, and media ethics.

UITYD is a local medical non-profit organization Co-funded by Med Global and multiple donors; it registered in Turkey in the year 2020, working on the front lines of crisis relief in Syria and Turkey to alleviate suffering and save lives, It provides health services and rebuilding healthcare to people in need and supports doctors and medical professionals by provides professional and educational pieces of training to physicians, and delivers medicine and medical supplies to hospitals and vulnerable families, including refugees and displaced persons, in disaster and underserved regions and offers assistance to people based on need, irrespective of race, religion, gender, or political affiliation, UITYD is composed of medical and public health volunteers of diverse backgrounds.
